Tasks & Responsibilities: What to Expect

Within the Legal Department, the Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for the management of legal risks in connection with real estate law matters of the AIFM BNP Paribas REIM Germany for the missions within the scope of activity of the Legal department:

  • The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible to pilot the investment, corporate, supervisory and regulatory legal aspects of the activity of BNP Paribas REIM in Germany, and especially:
  • Managing legal aspects of complex, multi-jurisdictional fund structure under German Capital Investment Code (KAGB), corporate law and the relevant supervisory and regulatory requirements, including via managing external lawyers
  • Advising on legal aspects of the relationships with the external supervisory authority (BaFin)
  • Providing assistance in the context of pre-litigation or litigations within its scope of action
  • Participating in the implementation of templates related to investment, corporate, supervisory and regulatory documentation
  • The Senior Legal Counsel participates in the coordination of the BNP Paribas Real Estate and BNP Paribas Group's cross-functional activities and cross-border operations within its scope of action.
  • The Senior Legal Counsel is in charge of implementing and monitoring Legal procedures. 
  • The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for implementing and monitoring Regulatory Watch with respect to fund regulatory
  • The Senior Legal Counsel ensures the reporting of its activity and thus contribute to the various reports in force within the BNP Paribas Real Estate legal function.

Expertise & soft skills: What you bring to the table 

  • A German law degree (Successfully completed law studies with first and second state examinations), with relevant experience in financial/asset management or real estate markets and/or related transactions or regulation, with a law firm or international financial institution
  • Understanding of corporate, regulatory landscape and their impact on AIFMs
  • Understanding of the role of the legal team as control and challenge function and participation in risk management
  • Team player, proactive, strong persuasive skills
  • Risk awareness and ability to advise on legal risks
  • Clear communication on complex matters
  • Confident, flexibility and pragmatism
  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken
