Corporate philanthropy

As a major player and expert in coporate philanthropy since 1984, the BNP Paribas Group has a strong presence in the field of philanthropic activities.

Global-scale philanthropy

In all countries where we do business, the Group manages its philanthropic initiatives around three fields of action: solidarity, environment and culture

Through its philanthropic activities, BNP Paribas promotes equal opportunities, fights job insecurity among young people and women, and helps integrate refugees in Europe. Through its Foundation, it also supports scientific research on climate and biodiversity. And it contributes to cultural creation and transmission.

These initiatives demonstrate the Group’s anchoring and involvement in local life. They promote exchanges with stakeholders and are a source of pride for our colleagues.

Out in the field, BNP Paribas’ philanthropy supports:

  • social, humanitarian and environmental associations and NGOs;
  • educational programmes in favour of underprivileged persons;
  • Group’s employees who volunteer for these associations;
  • research and awareness programmes on climate change and biodiversity;
  • artists, festivals and cultural institutions involved in jazz, dance and circus.

The BNP Paribas Group is committed as a patron to 3 priority areas - solidarity, culture, environment. In 2022, it represents:

€6.37M

for solidarity

€2.23M

for culture

€2.83M

for environment

Philanthropy exercised through coalitions

Working with other philanthropists enhances the impact of our initiatives. The BNP Paribas Group takes part in coalitions that provide collective solutions to major challenges of our time.

In France, for example, the BNP Paribas Group is a founding patron of "La France s’engage(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)", a foundation that lays out a path to scale up the most innovative general-interest initiatives. It is also the top patron and partner of "L’Ascenseur(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)", a third-place, unique in Europe, that is dedicated to equal opportunities. Twenty private and public associations come together at "L’Ascenseur" to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds gain access to education, employment and culture.

BNP Paribas is also one of the pioneering companies working with "Collectif Mentorat(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)(Opens in a new tab)", which encourages and promotes philanthropy within companies. With almost 1,000 mentors among its employees, BNP Paribas ranks first among companies committed to equal opportunities.

"Taking action to create a better world is in the DNA of our philanthropic initiatives. Innovating, supporting dreams, backing visionaries committed to solidarity and to addressing environmental and culture issues, who challenge us and show us the paths to follow, acting in a monitoring role: these are all tasks that we take to heart in each of our philanthropic initiatives"

Focus on the Rescue & Recover Fund

The BNP Paribas Rescue & Recover Fund makes it possible to react rapidly and efficiently worldwide in the event of humanitarian or environmental disaster. The Fund collects donations from BNP Paribas Group employees, customers of Commercial & Personal Banking in France and retired Group employees who are members of the “Amicale des Retraités”. The Group matches donations and, in exceptional cases, matches them two times over, in order to fund the projects of four partner NGOs: Doctors Without Borders, CARE, the French Red Cross and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

In 11 years, more than 15 million euros (including 5 million euros for Ukraine in 2022) have been collected to fund concrete actions in the field, while helping more than 6 million people. The BNP Paribas Rescue & Recover Fund has been associated with 45 campaigns in more than 30 countries worldwide.

In 2023

The BNP Paribas Rescue & Recover Fund mobilised to provide support after two crises caused by destructive earthquakes: in Turkey and Syria in February and in Morocco in September. The Rescue & Recover Fund annual campaign also provided support to women, the main victims of job insecurity and violence, through our NGO partners’ several international development projects. All in all, almost 2.5 million euros was paid out to NGO partners in 2023.

The BNP Paribas Foundation and the Group received the Grand Prize for Philanthropy awarded by Groupe Ficade, in the “Emergency” category.
