Corporate philanthropy
As a major player and expert in coporate philanthropy since 1984, the BNP Paribas Group has a strong presence in the field of philanthropic activities.
Global-scale philanthropy
In all countries where we do business, the Group manages its philanthropic initiatives around three fields of action: solidarity, environment and culture.
Through its philanthropic activities, BNP Paribas promotes equal opportunities, fights job insecurity among young people and women, and helps integrate refugees in Europe. Through its Foundation, it also supports scientific research on climate and biodiversity with one of the most emblematic environmental philanthropy programmes: “Climate & Biodiversity Initiative”. And it contributes to cultural creation and transmission.
These initiatives demonstrate the Group’s anchoring and involvement in local life. They promote exchanges with stakeholders and are a source of pride for our colleagues.
Out in the field, BNP Paribas’ philanthropy supports:
- social, humanitarian and environmental associations and NGOs;
- educational programmes in favour of underprivileged persons;
- Group’s employees who volunteer for these associations;
- scientific research and awareness programmes on climate change and biodiversity;
- artists, festivals and cultural institutions involved in contemporary dance and circus, and jazz.
The BNP Paribas Group is committed as a patron to 3 priority areas - solidarity, environment, culture. In 2023 (excluding exceptional support and skills sponsorship in France), it represents:
for solidarity
for environment
for culture
Philanthropy exercised through coalitions
Working with other philanthropists enhances the impact of our initiatives. The BNP Paribas Group takes part in coalitions that provide collective solutions to major challenges of our time.
In France, for example, the BNP Paribas Group is a founding patron of "La France s’engage", a foundation that lays out a path to scale up the most innovative general-interest initiatives. It is also the top patron and partner of "L’Ascenseur", a third-place, unique in Europe, that is dedicated to equal opportunities. Twenty private and public associations come together at "L’Ascenseur" to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds gain access to education, employment and culture.
BNP Paribas is also one of the pioneering companies working with "Collectif Mentorat", which encourages and promotes philanthropy within companies. With more than 1,000 mentors among its employees, BNP Paribas ranks first among companies committed to equal opportunities.
Taking action to create a better world is in the DNA of our philanthropic initiatives. Innovating, supporting dreams, backing visionaries committed to solidarity and to addressing environmental and culture issues, who challenge us and show us the paths to follow, acting in a monitoring role: these are all tasks that we take to heart in each of our philanthropic initiatives.
The 12 foundations and endowments funds of the BNP Paribas Group
From 2019 to 2023, the BNP Paribas Group allocated €500 million to its philanthropy activities in the areas of solidarity, the environment and culture, or nearly 1% of its net income attributable to equity holders (estimated at 01/02/2024). The BNP Paribas Foundation directs and coordinates the international development of the BNP Paribas Group’s corporate philanthropy activities wherever the Bank is present, as well as the 10 others Foundations through the world and the BNP Paribas Rescue & Recover Fund.
