YOUR JOB AT A GLANCE
As Legal Counsel, you will provide legal support to various business lines in the area of granting loans and collateral. For these lines of business, you will structure the legal aspects of lending and the issuance of bank guarantees and documentary credits, and assist in defining general legal policy and guidelines in these areas.
IN DETAIL
You will be part of the Corporate Coverage & Specialised Finance (CC&SF) team within the Legal Financing department.
- Your role will comprise a unique mix of transactional and advisory work in a highly dynamic environment.
- You will be involved in all stages of credit applications. During the term of the loans, you will advise the business line and operational services involved on all legal aspects (e.g. in the event of modifications to the documentation, requesting collateral, refinancing, etc.). You will also assist and advise the services involved with restructuring and bankruptcies (which may also be in an international context).
- In addition, you will advise the Global Trade Solutions and Bank Guarantees business lines. This includes drawing up and checking bank guarantees and process notes, following up disputes in the event of calling in bank guarantees, providing advice to the Trade Finance Group Competence Centre, and so on.
- In addition, you will be responsible for evaluating the Bank's legal and reputational risks and for drawing up and enforcing the relevant legal guidelines and documentation, as required for the Bank's financing activities.
- You will interact with a number of business lines on a daily basis.
- You will also be a member of the Legal Financing Platform, an organisation that brings together all Legal Finance professionals within the BNP Paribas Group and which is further subdivided by specialisations.
YOUR TALENTS AND SKILLS
- You are able to work independently while also being a team player who shares knowledge and collaborates with colleagues within Legal Belgium and Legal Group.
- You have strong analytical skills. You approach cases in a pragmatic, but legally correct way.
- You communicate well, with strong negotiating skills and powers of persuasion. You are able to empathise with the needs of internal customers.
- You are quick to spot legal risks, are flexible and react rapidly.
- You have a Master's degree in law from a Belgian university. Additional training or a specialisation in banking and financial law would be an asset. Ideally, you also have relevant experience in the banking sector or in a law firm.
- You have very good active and passive knowledge of English as well as Dutch or French.
