Business line/Function: APAC IT Production
Location: Hong Kong
Position Purpose:
CIB Market Infrastructure manages the electronic‑trading platform infrastructure for the Global Markets business lines at BNP Paribas CIB. Our Market‑Infrastructure Systems Engineers design, deploy and operate Linux at scale while continuously improving the platform through automation and self‑service tools.
We are looking for motivated Linux Systems Engineers to join our Hong Kong‑based Market‑Infrastructure team. The platform (Red Hat & Debian) is mission‑critical for business availability and performance. Successful candidates are interested in the financial‑services industry, are self‑driven yet collaborative, and can manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
The role works closely with regional and global infrastructure teams (Core Unix, Network, Storage), APS (Application Production Support), platform‑development groups and business‑side stakeholders. Daily interaction with electronic‑trading teams provides a rapid feedback loop and a direct pulse on the business.
Responsibilities
Operate the Linux‑based trading platform distributed across the region, including monitoring during trading hours and occasional work outside business hours.
Act as the technical liaison between the trading floor, quantitative teams and external vendors, translating business requirements into robust technical solutions.
Lead incident response, perform root‑cause analysis and keep stakeholders informed.
Proactively identify and eliminate platform performance bottlenecks; tune Linux stacks, network paths and storage subsystems to deliver measurable improvements in fill‑ratio and trader P&L.
Design, own and deliver complex technical solutions and project deliverables.
Prioritise, track and execute multiple initiatives while maintaining operational stability.
Report project status, escalate blockers and drive issues to resolution.
Continuously improve provisioning, patching processes and related tooling.
Document and communicate business and technical requirements.
Implement hardening guidelines, automate security‑patch roll‑outs and work with the BNP Paribas security team to meet group‑wide standards.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies
Proficiency with the Linux command line and shell scripting/Python development for automation, testing and debugging.
Deep understanding of Enterprise Linux distributions and advanced networking concepts (policy routing, multicast).
Proven ability to collaborate with application, security and network teams to translate business requirements into compliant Linux configurations.
Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and resolving performance bottlenecks in networking stacks, system processes and low‑latency, high‑throughput applications.
Hands‑on experience with bare‑metal provisioning and configuration‑management at scale (Foreman/Puppet, Ansible).
Familiarity with server hardware and components.
Participation in a rotating morning‑shift on‑call roster (including holidays and weekends).
Self‑driven, able to work under pressure and thrive in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
Excellent time‑management, strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritise effectively.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with technical and operational teams regionally and globally.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills in English.
Occasional travel within APAC for data centre projects.
Specific Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in a system and infrastructure engineering environment at scale.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with team members, other support groups and remote technical staff (e.g., data centre smart‑hands).
