ABOUT THE JOB

MISSION

BNP PARIBAS’ Leveraged Finance team is a market leader in Europe across both term loans and high yield bonds, having led most of the landmark transactions in the space for top tier private equity and leveraged corporate deals. Moreover, we have been at top of European and Iberian league tables in the recent years and have won the prestigious IFR award “EMEA Leveraged Finance House” both in 2023 and 2024.

BNPP’s pan-European Leveraged Finance team has c.100 professionals across various cities in Europe, including London, Paris, Madrid, Milan and Brussels. The team based in Madrid consists of +15 professionals and covers projects both in Iberia and the rest of Europe.

As an off-cycle trainee, you will be primarily providing support on the origination of new transactions, execution of live deals (including high yield bonds and term loans) and day-to-day portfolio management activities. You will provide support on the production of both internal and external materials, including the creation of presentations for marketing and syndication purposes, credit memos, financial models and complete financial and credit analysis.

The job requires strong quantitative skills and the capacity to work on several transactions in parallel, which requires good organization skills and strong commitment.

By joining our team, you will gain insight on the structuring and execution of landmark Leveraged Finance transactions and develop strong credit analysis skills. Outstanding candidates have the opportunity to join the team as a full-time analyst following the internship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Origination:

  • Work on pitch processes, in cooperation with various teams across the bank (M&A, ECM, Syndicate, Rating Advisory, Coverage)
  • Interact with external clients (including debt issuers and private equity clients) and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain high degree of market awareness

Execution:

  • Provide support in the day-to-day execution of live deals
  • Prepare thoughtful cash flow projection models, driven by detailed assessment of business and economic conditions
  • Assist in the production of internal credit / capital markets memos, including advanced financial statement analysis
  • Conduct issuer due diligence and identify significant business, industry and financial strengths and risks

Regulation:

  • Ensure that all regulatory and commercial training is completed on time and refreshed as required
  • Responsible for adherence to the Bank’s corporate policies, to its internal Compliance regulations as well as to appropriate external Regulators

REQUIREMENTS

  • Studies: A degree from a leading university with an excellent academic record
  • Experience: Previous experience in investment banking (debt products, M&A or ECM), consulting teams, private debt / equity or similar is essential
  • Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish (preferred), another EU language would be beneficial
