MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

In the context of fast growth, the Head of Learning and Development leads a team of professionals in the delivery of programs and activities enabling employee knowledge building and development.

While acting as a strategic partner, the head of the team partners with the different business teams to understand learning needs and manages the curation of the Canada Academy to implement skills-based programs.

The role also leads the in-country deployment of development initiatives in line with the broader regional and global agenda while responding to local context. 

The incumbent will be a member of the Canada HR Management Team, as well as the Americas Regional L&D team. This individual will also represent Canada on the Group HR Learning team and participate in other global forums as appropriate. In addition, the role is a core contributor to the design of the region’s Americas’ Performance Management, Talent Management, Coaching and Mentoring practices.

The role acts in collaboration with HR Business Partners, Comp and Benefits, the DEI team, as well as the Employee Relations teams.

In detail

Main responsibilities: 

LEARNING MANAGEMENT

  • Lead a team of Learning and Development professionals in the delivery of the learning and agenda 
  • Develop and implement business-aligned L&D strategies for the country
  • Manage external service providers / management of internal trainers/facilitators
  • Foster a culture of Social Learning through the Canada Academy (identify in/external trainers, content eval.)
  • Lead the strategy for the deployment of French language training for employees   

TALENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Contribute to the DEI strategy via training implementation and inclusive talent development practices 
  • In partnership with HRBPs, deliver local Performance Management, Talent Management campaigns
  • Lead the countries Coaching and Mentoring practices
  • Diagnose, design and delivery solutions for bespoke team effectiveness, culture and/or engagement needs
  • Set strategy for development programs for: interns, graduates, high potential, and underrepresented employees 

Additionally, the Head of Learning and Development will lead ad hoc projects locally or on behalf of the region/global L&D teams.

TEAM ADMINISTRATION

  • Manage L&D budget and contribute to the build up of the annual budget process with finance team 
  • Assign performance objectives, review work and provide feedback
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with conduct and other policies

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • B.A. or higher degree in related field; advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of Organizational Development, Industrial Psychology or Learning experience. 
  • Prior Team leadership experience
  • Skilled at mining data and ability to distill concepts from complex concepts.
  • Skilled presenter able to target messages to varied audiences (Senior, non-SMEs.,) 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated ability and/or certification in Consulting Skills or System Team Development
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a matrixed and complex organization.
  • Certified in psychometric instruments e.g.: Hogan, MBTI, ILS, FIRO-B, Kilmann Conflict Model
  • Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of French and English is required.
