RISK aims at being a partner of the businesses by contributing to their sustainable development, but also a gatekeeper to ensure risks taken remain compatible with the Group’s Risk Appetite and its strategy.
RISK Iberian Hub Madrid is a transversal platform servicing the RISK Function by covering added-value activities around credit risk, market risk, operational risk and data protection. Offering a wide range of services to RISK teams, from consulting to cyber security going through data analysis, modelling or artificial intelligence.
ABOUT THE JOB
MISSION
YOUR TEAM
Your team belongs to BNP Paribas RISK Division (5 500+ employees in 50+ countries), recognized for its excellence among its peers. RISK is an integrated and independent function, it covers all the risks of the Bank (credit, market, liquidity, operational, ESG risks). RISK is part of the control functions but is also a partner for Business Lines and helps them sustainably growing.
Inside RISK, RISK Models & Regulatory (100+ teammates) designs "internal" models (used for both risk management and capital requirements measurements) and ensures their performance over time, while playing a watch tower role regarding regulatory changes.
Inside RISK Models & Regulatory (15 teammates), the Models Portfolio Management team ('MOMA') plays a key role as it facilitates Top Management decision regarding the Modelling Trajector
- Analyses the cost-benefit equilibrium of IRBA approaches use. This analysis is supported by a regular IRBA model inventory, augmented by the most meaningful/innovative indicators, including simulations
- Constructs mid-term model-related trajectory of capital requirements, monitors the impacts for all entities of the Bank and ensures consistence in visions with Finance and Strategy Function
- When necessary, MOMA designs and maintains its own simulation tools
- Also incubates or directly coordinates strategic programs to convert Regulation changes/challenges in transformation opportunities. For example, lately, MOMA has designed very large/transversal transformation programmes to prepare the Bank to CRR3 ("Basel 4") or align the model portfolio to Regulatory Guidelines ("IRB Repair") and even more recently, the PROUD Programme that supports a strategic decision which is the regulatory approach (Internal Rating Based Approaches -'IRBA' vs Standardized Approaches) (see below). The first two programmes are pluriannual and mobilize 100+ people in different divisions
- Ensures that new models are swiftly implemented and inserted in credit risk processes
Integrating MOMA gives you a lot of visibility and responsibilities.
YOUR MISSION
You will integrate the PROUD Program workforce, that aims at:
- Formalizing the framework for regulatory approach decision-making
- Operationalizing ‘the “Exposure Type” and “Business Units” data concepts as a key to justify the regulatory approach selection
- Industrializing the regulatory approach management within BNPP IT systems to reduce the operational risk and improve data quality
You will contribute by both monitoring and controlling the regulatory approach used for capital requirements calculation and animating the discussions with CFOs and CROS as part of the regulatory approach decision-making process, with potential impacts on the 5-year modelling roadmap. You will have a very transversal and top-rank visibility in this context.
The PROUD Program is in charge of the maintenance of the Bank's Policy dealing with the regulatory approach. This Policy guides the decision making (from less to more sophisticated approaches). In case the regulatory approach changes (for eg the development of a new IRBA model is necessary), projects are usually kicked off and MOMA may intervene to coordinate the works.
IRBA models are supervised by ECB and regulatory approach changes are subject to ECB decisions, which imposes high quality standards. When it comes to PROUD, the framework for decision-making should be sent to ECB by June 2025 via an application package. It will be an opportunity for you to learn about supervision processes and guide you towards excellence.
In your day to day, you will:
- Cartography the credit risk exposures of the Bank and their regulatory approach
- Animate the yearly process of regulatory approach assignment with Business Lines CFO/CROs
- Adjust the 5-year modelling roadmap when necessary and get a validation from Capital Committee
- Communicate the 5-year modelling roadmap to ECB and contribute to application packages and forthcoming IMIs when necessary
- Maintain the Framework documentation (including the Bank regulatory approach policy)
In your position, your main internal stakeholders will be Capital managers, CFOs and CROs of Business Lines, Finance & Strategy, FRESH (IT RISK FINANCE) with a possibility to enlarge your knowledge on BNPP Group Businesses.
