Role overview
The Rural team undertakes a wide range of estate, farm and property management and provides professional advice to private, commercial and institutional clients, working closely with colleagues in our estate agency, forestry, farming and commercial teams across the UK.
Due to demand for services provided by our Rural Land Management and Rural Building Surveying teams in Scotland, we are looking to grow the skill sets and capacity.
The role will focus on delivering maintenance, improvement and compliance works in relation to a wide range of rural assets including new and traditional agricultural buildings, residential farmhouses and cottages, small-scale commercial property, repairs to properties of historic significance and a wide range of rural infrastructure works such as bridges, roads, tracks and paths.
Current priorities / projects include repairs and upgrade works to agricultural building electrics, repairs following an expansive condition survey, integration of renewable technology, adaptions to mitigate against climate change, provision of modern fit for purpose agricultural buildings, repurposing of traditional agricultural buildings, energy performance upgrades to residential property.
Key deliverables
• Manage a range of maintenance works, programmes and projects including agricultural building repair, silage pit upgrades, residential renovation, external decoration and track repairs.
• Ability to track, prioritise and provide team and client updates.
• Ensuring achievement of delegated key client deliverables / projects timeously and on budget.
• Adherence to internal and client process and compliance standards including procurement.
Responsibilities
• Regular liaison with contractors, clients and members of the land management team.
• Able to ensure Health & Safety practices on site and in works planning.
• Performing a key supporting role within a high performing team on principal instructions.
• Ensuring value for money and an informed long-term specification for the client.
• Scope to develop/support the wider building consultancy team in Scotland.
Key Skills
• Experience and understanding of a range of repair works to residential and agricultural buildings.
• Experience of works management and ability to deliver planned preventative maintenance programmes and a range of repair and improvement works.
• Ability to manage a programme of multiple repairs and projects at any one time across a range of asset types, prioritising effectively and working to high standards under pressure.
• Skilled in overseeing day-to-day works management liaising with contractors and other consultants as required.
• Able to follow agreed procurement processes, tender works packages and ensure adherence to tender returns.
• An eye for detail and ensuring adherence to method statements, project specifications and briefs.
• Excellent communication skills capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with team members, other colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
• Efficient and effective management to make best use of a wider consultancy team.
• A diligent and dependable approach to all professional work.
• Seeking opportunities to leverage skill and expertise to develop new business for the wider team within Scotland.
Desirables
• Relevant formal training / undergraduate / postgraduate degree or equivalent
• Professional accreditation
• Experience of CAD / design software
• Practical on-site experience in a particular or multiple trades
• Ability to provide advice in relation to energy performance and measures
• Understanding of building conservation to provide advice in relation to typical rural properties
