The Role
Our National Planning and Development Team in Chelmsford are seeking talented people to be part of our team and future leadership.
Requirements:
- Some experience working in planning, ideally including working within the private sector but not essential.
- Will ideally have demonstrable experience in both local plan promotion and development management, but with the latter being of particular value.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and able to manage competing demands and prioritise tasks for themselves and others with the key aspect being to meet clients’ expectations.
- Must be a problem-solver and advocate ideas and solutions clearly.
- Successful applicants will have a flexible attitude towards working and be self-motivated with a strong team spirit.
- Candidates should also be self-assured, confident, enjoy the prospect of developing their own client base and making a real contribution to the prosperity of the Company and themselves.
- Ideally qualified with the RTPI (or RICS P&D) or working towards qualification.

Client base
- Housebuilders / developers / promotors - this work is quite varied, ranging from site reviews to planning applications and land promotion, but with a particular focus on small to large-scale residential and mixed-use developments.
- Commercial clients – including supporting small and medium enterprise businesses up to large scale corporate and investment clients connected with our BNP Paribas bank colleagues.
- Education and charities – universities, schools, and charities.
- Local authorities and government departments.
- Private landowners and individuals – a mixture of residential, commercial, and heritage developments.
The role will be based primarily in the Chelmsford office, working with a Director and Associate Director and providing guidance to the other non-Planning teams based in the office, but will also involve travel to clients and potentially other Strutt & Parker / BNP Paribas Real Estate offices.
We operate a reasonable work from home policy and are open to considering more flexible working arrangements but would expect the employee to be in the office c.3-days a week as a minimum.

Professional Skills & Qualifications
- Ideally professionally qualified RTPI (or RICS P&D).
- Good level of relevant post-academic experience.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent IT skills including use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project etc.
