Entering in 2002 the main indexes which make reference to socially responsible investment, BNP Paribas has seen its rating improved in 2003 by social and environmental rating agencies SAM (Sustainable Asset Management), VIGEO and INNOVEST.

Swiss agency SAM selected BNP Paribas in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) World and Stoxx. Ranked 10th on the list in 2002, BNP Paribas is now Number 1 amongst the French banks and fifth amongst the 27 best listed financial groups worldwide. This result is particularly significant as most extra-financial rating agencies raised their level of requirement noticeably in 2003.

Created in 1999, DJ Sustainability Index World and DJ Sustainability Index STOXX are the Dow Jones index dedicated to ethical investment, developed in partnership with SAM. Among the 2000 largest market capitalisations, it singles out those companies with the best performance in terms of sustainable development based on the expertise of SAM. It includes over 200 international companies, which represent over 60 sectors of activity across 27 different countries.
