With an overall score of 70/100 (+6 points compared to January 2017), BNP Paribas recorded in 2018 its best performance in Vigeo Eiris’ extra-financial rating since its first participation in 2003.
This strong progression of the Group’s overall score is due to an increase of its scores in most areas of this assessment. In particular, BNP Paribas’ scores significantly increased in the following domains compared with 2017: Environment (+12 points), Corporate Governance (+9 points) and Human Resources (+7 points) – a sector in which the signature of a global agreement in September 2018 between BNP Paribas and the International Global Union UNI strongly contributed to increasing the scores (see Vigeo Eiris’ press release).
In addition, this year, the Group has especially well performed in the following criteria, obtaining scores equal or superior to 80/100:
Created through a merger of two leading European agencies that specialised in rating companies and organisations on their environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, Vigeo Eiris is a world-reputed extra-financial analysis agency.
BNP Paribas has been taking part in the Vigeo Eiris (formerly Vigeo) ratings process since 2003. The Bank is required to fill out a questionnaire detailing its business and its corporate ESG policies. The questionnaire comprises six sections covering the six major domains which Vigeo Eiris sees as having major extra-financial impacts on a bank such as BNP Paribas, namely: Environment, Human Resources, Human Rights, Community Involvement, Business Behaviour and Corporate Governance.
