Engaged! What is BNP Paribas’ direct environmental impact?

Published Today

Each year, BNP Paribas measures and publishes the direct impacts of its operational scope, covering the energy consumed to run its buildings and data centers, as well as emissions generated by company business trips.

Direct greenhouse gas emissions: a new milestone reached

For nearly 15 years, the Group has pursued a proactive policy to reduce its “direct impact.” In 2025, BNP Paribas emitted 211,435 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, representing a reduction of more than 20% compared to 2024. This corresponds to 1.19 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per FTE (full-time equivalent, i.e. the number of employees expressed on a full-time basis).

Overall, the Group has reduced its direct greenhouse gas emissions by more than half since 2019.

Results driven by a comprehensive strategy to reduce direct environmental impacts

A range of indicators enables the Group to track changes in its direct environmental footprint, including business trips, building energy consumption, waste recycling, and water and paper usage.

The Group’s commitments to reducing its carbon footprint are fully embedded in its cross-functional and participatory “Green Company for Employees” (GC4E) programme. Key priorities include promoting sustainable mobility, managing digital footprint, reducing single-use plastics, advancing resource circularity, and encouraging sustainable food practices.
