The position at a glance

BNP Paribas’ Financial Institutions Coverage division (FIC) is a product-neutral group dedicated to the coverage of financial institutions (Large Pension Funds, Banks, insurance companies, asset managers and governments). FIC is specifically in charge of:

  • Managing client relationships on a global basis
  • Identifying new industry trends and related client needs
  • Working closely with our product specialists in delivering tailored solutions to our clients across the full product suite (debt capital markets, derivatives, transactional banking, advisory and structured solutions, etc)
  • Understanding client needs and objectives 
  • Establishing and nurturing regular contacts at all levels of the client organization in order to develop long term business relationships

BNP Paribas Canada’s FIC is growing and is looking to hire a Vice President to join the Montreal team to support clients across Canada. 

In detail

  • Take an active role in supporting and managing transactions with some of the largest Financial Institutions, assist with the development of new client relationships and have an impact overall on the FIC team. 
  • Based in Montreal under the direction of the Senior Banker and as part of the FIC Canada Team
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of all major pension funds and pension asset managers across Canada within the Bank’s portfolio, and their respective industry. 
  • Develop product/organizational knowledge applicable to the client portfolio.
  • Provide marketing, operational and deal execution support to the senior bankers.
  • Work closely with our product specialists in delivering tailored solutions to our clients across the full product suite (all Global markets products (example FX, Rates, Equities etc) debt & equity capital markets, derivatives, advisory, trade and treasury solutions, Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Credit.
  • Help identify growth opportunities with our existing clients and prospects, working with product partners to win mandates and assist with execution.
  • Work closely with Credit Analyst Team and help prepare requests for specific transactions and for annual reviews.
  • Prepare detailed RAROC and other internal client profitability models in support of selected transactions, including lending and structured financing
  • Actively monitor the credit quality and exposure by remaining up-to-date with the customer base, sectors and economic trends, and market information.
  • Support idea generation in close coordination with industry groups and product specialists.
  • Perform client research directed at uncovering opportunities to market bank products such as peer analysis, trends and transformational events.
  • Offer guidance and mentorship to the junior members within the team.
  • Take responsibility for management briefing memos and assist in building strategic internal pitches and presentations.
  • Take responsibility for tracking ongoing portfolio revenue and budget across all products and develop a detailed understanding of historic transactions. 
  • Take responsibility for AML/KYC priorities and completion along with the relevant diligence, compliance and MO teams, account onboarding and recertification, and related requirements.
  • Act as back-up for senior banker vis-à-vis clients, the business lines, and other departments of the bank when needed.
  • Assist in preparation of annual client budget and monitor monthly performance in coordination with the SB’s, Head of FIC & CEO, Canada
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis and lead other projects on a case by case basis

Staff supervision/ Organizational Structure: 

  • This position provides for standard working conditions in an office and a normal work schedule from Monday to Friday. This position may require occasional travel if warranted by business.  
  • The position will report to the MD and senior FIC Banker in MTL, but have responsibility in support of the portfolio across Canada and in support and partnership with the Banker and team in Toronto.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

Education: 

  • Undergraduate degree related to commerce, finance or accounting, or a non-business/commerce degree combined.  MBA and/or CFA and/or CPA designation would be an asset.

Experience :

  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in corporate & investment banking, global markets or related fields
  • Experience in private markets (Real Estate, Infrastructure, Private Equity) or DCM/ECM would be a strong asset 
  • Previous experience dealing with Canadian clients is an asset

Technical Knowledge :

  • Good understanding of credit and risk analysis
  • Ability to navigate across large organizations to deliver results and outcomes, and represent strategy message and information across the firm
  • Ability to form strong partnerships and work in environments where there are multiple, overlapping stakeholders
  • Knowledge of financial analysis techniques is an asset
  • Good comfort in Excel and PowerPoint

  • Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of French and English is required.
