About BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking in Mexico
BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking has had a representation office in Mexico since 1966. Since then BNP Paribas has played an important role in financing Mexico’s development into the 21st century. BNP Paribas was one of the founders of Banco Nacional de Mexico (Banamex), one of Mexico’s largest banks, at the end of the 19th century, and stayed as a minority shareholder until the nationalization of the banking system in 1982. BNP was first established in Mexico more than half a century ago also acting as an important shareholder in Banco del Atlántico until 1982
BNP Paribas Mexico is expanding and has started operating in 2021 a full-fledged Mexican bank to better serve its clients through local operations performing local and global markets activities. Operations out of BNP Paribas Mexico include in particular trading and market making activities on interest rate derivatives, forex (spot and forward), bonds, repos and reverse repos on MBonos, UDI and Bonos. The coverage activities focusing on Mexican corporate and institutional clients will remain and expand.
Business Overview:
Corporate Credit Management Mexico (“CCM”) is a transversal Team in support of the Corporate Clients Groups of the Mexico platform and multinational groups. The CCM Team works to ensure coverage, monitoring & execution of all counterparty risk requests for the Corporate platform.
Responsibilities:
- Perform credit analysis and prepare credit memoranda for assigned accounts. These include new transactions, annual reviews, renewals, amendments, waiver requests and financial updates
- Strong interaction with the Risk department, Coverage and Product teams including coordinating the credit process amongst the various Product and Risk Teams to ensure an efficient turnaround of transactions
- Maintain reporting related to portfolio review, including pipeline tracking, exposure tracking, and other general reports (including WL reports, High Risk Leveraged Lending)
- Ensure proper maintenance of credit management systems (CRF and MCA)
- Coordinate and optimize Credit Process interactions, ensuring timely production of Credit Proposals and circulation to Credit Committee
- Attend bank meetings and/or client calls with the Relationship Manager
- Anticipate credit issues and alert local management on all related hot topics
- Manage and monitor the credit quality of a portfolio of assigned corporate clients & prospects including periodic review of borrower financial statements, covenant compliance reports, press releases and news articles, rating agency and equity analyst reports, industry trends, etc.
- Evaluate clients/transactions for risk-related changes.
- Mentor Juniors: Coach and serve as point person for analysts, interns on the team.
- Provide support and training to Credit Analysts and Trainees in terms of methodology, tools and resources
- Comply with all applicable regulations (local or those defined by Group) and BNPP internal policies as well as Code of Conduct. This includes but is not limited to Financial Security, Know Your Customer, Due Diligence, Client Interest Protection, Market Integrity, Professional Ethics and Respect for colleagues
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Fluent in Spanish and English (written and oral)
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business Administration
- Master´s Degree (Finance or MBA a plus)
- Solid knowledge of financial statement analysis and fundamental corporate credit analysis (IFRS-Local standards knowledge)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Corporate Banking Environment, general banking products and banking policies, procedures and methodologies
- Advanced projection modeling skills
- Strong business writing skills
- Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Minimum of 7 years of prior experience in Banking/Financial environment
- Former experience in a corporate banking environment will be a plus
