With a budget of 1 million euros, the new fund will aim to finance French-produced, or co-produced, first or second films. The fund will be open to financing films of various styles and genres, and aim to support projects that reflect BNP Paribas’ values and social engagement. To encourage new ideas and a spirit of initiative among its staff, the BNP Paribas Group has undertaken a veritable policy of entrepreneurship. Discover the project of 7 employees at BNP Paribas Securities Services who shared their desire to see the seasonal cycle come to life in the Grands Moulins de Pantin area, at the end of 2014. Their idea took the shape of an urban vegetable garden that slotted in with an approach of biodiversity and thinking about sustainable development and recycling. The project quickly got support from Management and the Works Council. Les Graines du Moulin won a BNP Paribas Securities Services innovation award.

Since 2014, the People’s Lab has been encouraging employees with an innovative idea to develop it into a product or service which can be incorporated into the Group’s activities. Now, the intrapreneurship programme, with its roots in the Engagement Department, is going even further: it will be targeting initiatives with a positive impact on the Bank AND on society. BNP Paribas is launching a series of portraits to introduce these #Intrapreneurs4Good.

Around 30% of LGBTI employees say they have seen instances of homophobic discrimination in the workplace and 73% avoid discussing their private life at work. BNP Paribas Group has adopted the UN standards against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity—in line with its Diversity and Inclusion policy and with the aim of integrating all people within its company.

Sustainability: which role do scientists have to play in the fight against climate change?

How should scientists respond to the challenges of climate change? This question was asked to Jean-Paul Moatti at the Climate Initiative conference held on March 30th. Mr. Moatti is head of the Research Institute for Development (IRD). It was a good opportunity to shed the light on current environmental issues and to talk about two projects supported by the BNP Paribas Foundation, Tropicol and SoCa, which are led by researchers from the IRD.

For 3 days, these 90 participants will benefit from dedicated spaces, technologies, and methodology and will be accompanied by renowned figures to build their projects. In each city, one project will be rewarded by a multidisciplinary jury including Wayne McGregor, Alistair Spalding, Wong Chi-Yung, Serge Rangoni, (LA)HORDE and Dominique Hervieu. Each winning team will receive a development grant of €10,000 from the BNP Paribas Foundation as well as continued support from the partner theatres to bring their creation to life.

BNP Paribas and the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI) are announcing the signature of a five-year partnership within the framework of a program in South Africa aimed at helping young men and women from Cape Town districts to fill the roles of peacemakers and entrepreneurs within their community.  On the year of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this partnership extends the cooperation that has been established in California between WPDI and Bank of the West, the BNP Paribas’ US retail banking subsidiary. It completes the Group’s worldwide action in favour of youth inclusion, with a strong dynamic in France where BNP Paribas is one of the most committed companies to provide school and professional support to young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Within the framework of the Youth Peacemaker Network, WPDI’s flagship program that will be deployed in the Flats area of Cape Town, 360 young leaders will receive trainings in new technologies, conflict resolution and business management, as well as the necessary resources to enable them to carry out their projects with every chance of success.
