BNP Paribas launches investment fund in Cannes to foster new talent in film
BNP Paribas is launching a new investment whose purpose is to finance films made by promising new talent in the film industry. With a budget of 1 million euros, the new fund will aim to finance French-produced, or co-produced, first or second films. The fund will be open to financing films of various styles and genres, and aim to support projects that reflect BNP Paribas’ values and social engagement. By drawing on the BNP Paribas Group’s film-industry expertise, the ‘BNP Paribas New Cinema Talent’ fund will complement the Group’s existing range of financing and partnership solutions designed to support the film industry.

The French Association of Science Journalists (AJSPI) and the BNP Paribas Foundation launched their first climate investigation grant for European science journalists. The climate investigation grant was created in 2018 with the aim of supporting ambitious field investigations focused on understanding of the climate, adaptation to climate change, or on different mitigation strategies. It also aims to encourage transnational, collaborative and transmedia projects. It is exclusively reserved for professionals (print, radio, TV, web...), members of a national association of science journalists, based in Europe. There is no linguistic restriction on the language in which the winning projects are subsequently published.

Following the agreement signed in February 2018 concerning the acquisition, by BGL BNP Paribas, of all the outstanding shares in ABN AMRO Bank (Luxembourg) S.A. and of its fully owned subsidiary ABN AMRO Life S.A., BGL BNP Paribas announces that the transaction was completed on 3 September 2018. As part of this transaction, the insurance company has been taken over by Cardif Lux Vie. The transaction was approved by the competent regulatory authorities.

DANSATHON: the first international hackathon created by the BNP Paribas Foundation, with three partner theatres, that will gather 90 participants to imagine the future of dance in the digital age
From 28-30 September 2018, for 3 days in 3 cities (London, Liege and Lyon), the Dansathon will bring together multidisciplinary participants from the worlds of dance, technology, design, and communication to outline together what dance could become tomorrow. For 3 days, these 90 participants will benefit from dedicated spaces, technologies, and methodology and will be accompanied by renowned figures to build their projects. In each city, one project will be rewarded by a multidisciplinary jury including Wayne McGregor, Alistair Spalding, Wong Chi-Yung, Serge Rangoni, (LA)HORDE and Dominique Hervieu. Each winning team will receive a development grant of €10,000 from the BNP Paribas Foundation as well as continued support from the partner theatres to bring their creation to life.

On 28 May, on the occasion of the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros, BNP Paribas launched, in conjunction with the French Tennis Federation, the ‘BNP Paribas Young Talent Team’. Over 3 days in 3 cities (London, Liège and Lyon), 90 participants developed new innovative projects to imagine the future of dance, using all of the opportunities presented by digital technology. To conclude the event, one wining project was selected in each city by a jury. The winners were: “Digital Umbilical” in London, “Vibes…” in Lyon and “Cloud Dancing” in Liège. Each of the 3 winning projects will receive a grant of €10,000 from the BNP Paribas Foundation to continue their work and will benefit from support provided by Maison de la Danse in Lyon, Sadler’s Wells in London or Théâtre de Liège to develop their idea.

“Tech for Good” Qarnot’s computer-radiators produce environmentally sound heat free of charge by performing computer calculations on behalf of companies. BNP Paribas, a partner of Qarnot since 2014, has decided to multiply by 5 its share of calculations entrusted to the start-up, which will be used to heat, free of charge, an entire building of 4,800m² in Bordeaux. BNP Paribas and the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI) are announcing the signature of a five-year partnership within the framework of a program in South Africa aimed at helping young men and women from Cape Town districts to fill the roles of peacemakers and entrepreneurs within their community. On the year of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this partnership extends the cooperation that has been established in California between WPDI and Bank of the West, the BNP Paribas’ US retail banking subsidiary. It completes the Group’s worldwide action in favour of youth inclusion, with a strong dynamic in France where BNP Paribas is one of the most committed companies to provide school and professional support to young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
