Dream Up is the new international programme for education through art launched by Foundation BNP Paribas. 30,000 underprivileged youngsters will benefit from it in 26 countries. Today, let us discover Théâtre Traverse!
The Dream Up in Luxembourg project is taken on by the association Théâtre Traverse selected by BGL BNP Paribas in Luxembourg and Fondation BNP Paribas. A group of artists and pedagogues incite youths and adolescents in precarious state to create interdisciplinary artistic projects revolving around theatre, dance and music.
This year Théâtre Traverse focuses on problems of refugees in Europe. The project is entitled HOME SWEET HOME and is based on the creation of a multidisciplinary spectacle. This stage production is created and interpreted by professional artists and about sixty young refugees who can thus express their history, roots and dreams. These young people originate from Syria, Eritrea, Cameroon, Iraq, Guinea, Afghanistan, Austria and Luxembourg.
Several workshops were held since the start of the academic year and various themes were discussed: family, borders or even escapes. The aim is to find a theatrical language which is a mixture of violoncello, dance, body expression and songs to transpose these topics on the stage. Arabic and Kurdish songs were worked on.
In December, BGL BNP Paribas held two days of rehearsals of the plays on its stage. Then, the youth and the artists presented their work before the BGL BNP Paribas employees.
The Premiere of Home Sweet Home will be held on 12 April 2016 at Mierscher Kulturhaus in Luxembourg.
