Focus on the projects
For resilient communities in the highlands of northern Thailand
In the northern provinces of Thailand, mountainous families rely heavily on forests, water, and agriculture to feed themselves. However, seasons are becoming increasingly unpredictable, with droughts or torrential rains causing landslides, threatening their crops and food security. Women and young people, at the heart of community life, are particularly vulnerable to these challenges. To support them, CARE France has launched a project that aims to help over 17,000 beneficiaries, giving them the means to take control of their future and strengthen their resilience to climate change.
- Co-creation with communities and local authorities of local action plans to adapt to climate change, for better management of water, forests and agricultural land;
- Financing and support for the implementation of 210 green initiatives (agroforestry, local seed banks...);
- Training of hundreds of women and young people to develop practical skills;
- Creation of spaces for communities, local businesses and universities to meet, discuss and find solutions together.
Preparation of the most vulnerable communities for disasters
This comprehensive programme aims to ensure better preparedness for the Red Cross and communities for disaster, particularly internationally via the Regional Intervention Platforms available to the French Red Cross in the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean.
Some examples:
- Purchase of catakits (ready-to-use emergency bags) and pre-positioning of stocks;
- Preparing for the risk of flooding thanks to virtual reality experiences: what to put in your bag, what to do if the water is already entering your house;
- Risk awareness through self-training sessions lasting 20 to 30 minutes.

This project aims, among other things, to raise awareness of children between the ages of 9 and 11 in schools to the natural risks present in the territory: earthquakes, tsunamis, bushfires, landslides and cyclones. Through fun activities, pupils learn to identify risks and adopt the right actions to protect themselves. They are also trained in first aid and can put life-saving techniques into practice. Between 2019 and 2024, more than 10,000 pupils have already been trained.

The Paré pas Paré project is an initiative that aims to raise awareness from an early age of the natural risks to which Reunion Island is exposed. Through school modules dedicated to each risk, pupils prepare themselves to face the challenges posed by natural hazards. The project aims to diversify awareness-raising materials through the use of stories for young children and escape games for teenagers. It also provides an immersive experience for audiences from age 15 upwards to raise awareness about the actions and conduct to be adopted in the event of an epidemic.

Faced with the increase in climate-related disasters in small island states, the French Red Cross is developing a “First Aid and Climate Change” toolkit. With that in mind where extreme events (cyclones, floods, storms, etc.) are hitting harder and more often, first aid is becoming essential. It enables immediate intervention, reducing the severity of injuries and saving lives. This kit will provide the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies with practical resources, lists of essential equipment, and operational guides adapted to the climatic realities of these vulnerable territories.
