COP 21: the challenges of the Paris Agreement

Published On 19.05.2016

At the Climate Evening held by BNP Paribas in Paris on 7 April, Paul WatkinsonHead of the Climate Negotiation Team and Chief Negotiator at the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, gave a speech explaining the challenges of the Paris Agreement adopted at COP 21 and its consequences for the financial sector. While this historic agreement has just been opened for signatures, the issue at hand was to understand the consequences for the financial sector and in particular for BNP Paribas and its clients.

The Group has made the fight against climate change a priority focus of its corporate social and environmental responsibility programme. With this in mind, in early April BNP Paribas’ CSR department  organised an evening event dedicated to the climate to update its clients, a few months after COP21, about the risks and opportunities associated with the current energy transition.
