All that jazz

The BNP Paribas Foundation’s commitment to creation in jazz and improvised music is in its DNA. That’s why it has decided to support the Jazz Migration programme for the next four years.
In 2002 the Association Jazzé Croisé, a network promoting jazz in France and Europe, set up the programme, which now has 78 members, including some of the most influential festivals, clubs and performing arts centres.
Jazz Migration identifies promising projects and supports young talent on the French jazz scene. Considered the only programme that scouts young jazz musicians and gives them personalised artistic and professional help, it offers training as well as development and promotional advice in France and Europe.
At each new edition of Jazz Migration, a national call for applications from young talents is launched. The fifth one started in December and will last until 11 January 2019.
When the call for applications is over, nine qualified figures (musicians, promoters, labels, producers and journalists) will shortlist the finalists before approximately 100 programmers select four winning groups.
The four winning groups will receive personalised artistic and professional support for a year, including tailor-made training that meets their needs: stage coaching courses, residencies, recording sessions, etc. Jazz Migration wants to offer them the means to create and improve.
For the winners, Jazz Migration organises meetings with qualified professionals allowing them to understand the industry better and receive advice to develop their careers to the fullest.
To offer the artists the best exposure, Jazz Migration arranges press coverage opportunities as well as the possibility of creating promotional tools such as videos and compilations.
After the training year, the groups will go on a Jazz Migration tour promoted by the Association Jazzé Croisé. They will give around 20 concerts at performing arts centres clubs or festivals throughout France and Europe.
After the two-year programme, Jazz Migration will continue helping and advising the winning groups by offering them grants to fund their future projects.
