On 1 December the ‘Red Cents’ collection boxes were once again set up at BNP Paribas Fortis and Fintro branches for the end-of-year charity campaign. One novelty this year is that in addition to the 4,681 primary schools taking part, 1,762 secondary schools will also be lending a hand with the Foodbanks initiative. Another new aspect is that internally the effort is being extended to include the Private Banking arm. Here there are no collection boxes, but banners will be placed on the BNP Paribas Fortis Private Banking website homepage and the transactions website.

Social media have also been harnessed for the campaign. For every ‘check-in’ on Foursquare at a BNP Paribas Fortis branch, for every ‘re-tweet’ on Twitter and every ‘share’ on Facebook, BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation will donate the equivalent cost of one hot meal (i.e. 3 euros) to the national Foodbanks, up to a maximum of EUR 15,000.
The ‘full-scale’ Red Cents campaign – including posters outside the branches – will be running for two weeks during the Christmas holidays from 19 December until 2 January. However, the collection boxes will remain in place at the branches until Friday 16 January.
Last year the Red Cents drive collected close to 5,000,000 coins amounting to EUR 116,500, the equivalent of around 38,800 hot meals.
