Collaboration for a sustainable future
As the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly begins, citizens, heads of state, company directors, charities, NGOs and academics worldwide are invited to hold discussions and act to help achieve the UN’s 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
This year, the Global Goals Week is aiming to intensify the call to action for fulfilling the SDGs by 2030. The key word: collaboration, in line with goal 17: ‘Partnerships for the Goals’!
“To successfully implement the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, we must swiftLy move from commitments to action. To do that, we need strong, inclusive and integrated Partnerships at all levels.”
BNP Paribas is aware that these goals will be achieved through a joint effort and with an alliance and collaboration between all stakeholders. The group will therefore take part in many major events during this week :
- Financing Sustainable Landscapes : Global Challenges and Opportunities
On 25 September, Laurence Pessez, head of CSR at BNP Paribas, will take part in the conference organised by UNEP on sustainable-development challenges for emerging countries. The event will consider how new financing models like the Tropical Landscape Finance Facility (TLFF) could be used to ensure both economic development and protection of local ecosystems.
On 26 September, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, the Group’s Director and CEO, will co-lead a round table on future energy financing and tomorrow’s energy accessibility in the presence of many heads of state and global company directors.
- One Planet Summit
Following the Bloomberg Global Business Forum, the second edition of the One Planet Summit will take place in the presence of French president Emmanuel Macron. It will be a chance to take stock of the twelve actions that began in 2017 at the Paris summit to tackle climate change.
- HeForShe Impact Summit
As a HeForShe Thematic Champion, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé will take part in the HeForShe summit on 26 September, organised by UN Women. This will be a day of discussions on innovative practices and concrete solutions to promote gender equality.
- Tobacco-Free Finance Pledge
On 26 September, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé will sign the Tobacco-Free Finance Pledge, alongside all the other partners of this initiative. This undertaking encourages states and the private sector to withdraw from financing and insuring the tobacco industry. In 2017, BNP Paribas announced it would stop its business activities in financing and investment in the tobacco industry. The Group is a founding member of this movement.
Ever since they were adopted worldwide in 2015, the SDGs are an integral part of our policy in Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibility and of our corporate strategy. We aim to place the SDGs at the heart of our integrated business model for a positive impact on the environment and all our stakeholders: employees, clients, investors, citizens and governments.
