A structure bringing together investors and expertise
The structure differs from that of usual investment accelerators and brings together the skills of Imec, a specialist in nano and digital technology, and the expertise of its investors such as Samsung, Applied Materials (manufacturer of equipment for the production of semiconductors), the universities of Ghent and Louvain, the SFPI (federal shareholdings and investment company), and Imec itself.
Imec.xpand, a wholly independent fund, will focus on projects based on nanotechnology applications: healthcare, smart cities, mobility, logistics, energy and industry 4.0.
“ the fund has everything it needs to create new companies specialising in cutting-edge technologies. ”

Promoting and supporting innovation
“Thanks to its specific nature, the fund has everything it needs to create new companies specialising in cutting-edge technologies,” says Mireille Kielemoes. “This initiative will not only generate added value over time, it also fits perfectly within the Bank’s investment strategy in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship.”
In the same way as the Innovation Hub, which brings together skills and expertise for innovative companies, this initiative is part of the ongoing aim of BNP Paribas Fortis and the whole Group to develop innovative offers for its clients.
