BNP Paribas 'Top 5' ranking in world's largest banks table
16.07.2008 | Group
The Banker magazine featured in its July edition the rankings of the 1000 world's biggest banks. The study did not leave any doubt about the current difficulties facing the global banking and financial sector. This year, banks' profitability fell to 20% after a record 23.4% in 2007.
Despite the current slowdown, BNP Paribas showed strong resilience, finishing third with $2.49 billion in terms of total assets. In the profit-beforetax category, BNP Paribas ranked no.5 at $16.27 billion.
The Groupe did not appear in the loss-ranking category thanks to its strong ability to weather the current financial storm. Additionally, the Group's Turkish subsidiary TEB moved up from no.704 to no.511 in 2008, and was named "Most Rapidly Rising Turkish Bank" by the magazine.
