Forbes magazine has released its Top 2000 list of the world's largest corporations in 2005 according to revenues, earnings, assets, and market capitalization.

BNP Paribas was ranked 16th in all categories combined, up from 18th in 2004. It is the largest French corporation in the ranking, ahead of Total (18th), Axa (26th), France Télécom (36th), Société Générale (42th), and Crédit Agricole (69th).
In the banking industry, BNP Paribas finished 6th behind two US institutions (Citigroup, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase) and two from the UK (HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland).

BNP Paribas is still the largest bank in the euro zone, ahead of Banco Santander (13th-largest bank and 46th-largest corporation).
The world's top three corporations, all categories combined, are Citigroup, General Electric, and American International Group (AIG).
