BNP Paribas Capital (Singapore) was appointed joint lead manager for the Initial Public Offering of LMIR Trust (Lippo-Mapletree Indonesia Retail Trust), a real estate fund established to manage retail assets in Indonesia. The deal was initiated by Chong Lee Tan with the support of Christian de Charnace. LMIR Trust was put forward by PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk (“Lippo Karawaci”), the largest public real estate company in Indonesia ($790 M in market capitalization), itself a real estate subsidiary of Lippo Group. LMIR Trust is jointly held by Mapletree, the real estate arm of Temasek Holdings, a sovereign fund in Singapore.
The IPO was well received by international investors and individuals with a demand for shares 1.6 times greater at the offering, despite very volatile market conditions and difficulties related to the subprime crisis. This is the second investment fund that BNP Paribas Capital (Singapore) has introduced to the stock market in 18 months.
