BNP Paribas, BNP Paribas Fortis and BGL BNP Paribas were honoured with the prestigious prizes of Bank of the Year in France, Belgium and Luxembourg at the recent The Banker 2012 awards in London.

BNP Paribas was awarded "Bank of the Year 2012" in France thanks to its early adoption of Basel III capital requirements, the success of the "One Bank for Corporates" initiative in bringing in new customers in France and the €5bn French SME lending initiative launched in May. In addition, the NET Agence online bank, the sharp rise in online banking customers and new mobile banking package jointly launched with Orange in France in December 2011 were also factors contributing to the success of BNP Paribas.

BNP Paribas Fortis was awarded "Bank of the Year 2012" in Belgium thanks to the good performance of the bank, in particular retail banking which saw an increase in both deposits and lending, thus enabling BNP Paribas Fortis to continue to support the Belgian economy in a difficult environment. In addition, client satisfaction surveys showed continued progress and BNP Paribas Fortis' liquidity and solvency ratios remained above required levels for the year.

BGL BNP Paribas was awarded "Bank of the Year 2012" in Luxembourg thanks to the consistency of its financial results. Moreover, the bank has proven to be innovative and client-focused whilst maintaining a strong balance sheet in order to accompany its clients with their projects. Moreover, the investments in BGL BNP Paribas' businesses were also a positive contributing factor.
