20 June: World Refugee Day

BNP Paribas extends its initiative to assist refugees in Europe.

In 2016, with the arrival of the largest numbers of refugees and migrants Europe has had to cope with since the Second World War, BNP Paribas announced the launch of a plan to provide assistance and support to refugees arriving in Europe.

Given the evolving situation, BNP Paribas subsequently decided to extend its support for two more years, to 2017 and 2018, which adds up to an overall financial commitment of €8 million between 2016 and 2018

Group establishments in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland and Spain will be taking part in the implementation of this Europe-wide support plan.

Close to 30 NGOs, including three leading international humanitarian organisationsUNHCR, Caritas and SAMU Social – working in the nine countries listed above, that have been chosen by local BNP Paribas staff, were able, in coordination with the BNP Paribas Foundation, to provide assistance to some 62,000 refugees in 2016.

During 2017 and 2018, the Assistance Plan will help refugees in those same countries plus Serbia, which has been added to the list.

All the projects supported by BNP Paribas are listed on the map below
