Podcast On the Move #6: How are companies developing their electric vehicle fleets?

“On the Move” is BNP Paribas' podcast series dedicated to sustainable mobility. Against a backdrop of growing awareness of the ecological impact of vehicles and incentive-based environmental policies, the electrification of corporate fleets is gaining momentum. Ingrid Pautrat, Director of the transition to electric vehicles at Arval BNP Paribas, is our guest in this latest episode, and she explains the obstacles, opportunities and challenges involved in this inevitable transition.

On the Move #6: How do electric vehicles fit into corporate vehicle fleets?

Today's electric vehicles fall into three main categories: hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric (BEV). Supported in Europe by environmental policies and tax incentives, they are increasingly integrated within corporate electric vehicle fleets. Under the impetus of the European Green Deal, in particular, large companies have paved the way for their adoption, followed by public sector companies and local authorities.

For companies, the benefits are many: reduced CO2 emissions, lower running costs (with electricity cheaper than fuel, and reduced maintenance costs), and improved brand image. In terms of usage, feedback from employees who have switched to electric vehicles is generally very positive, even though the adoption of this new form of driving requires support.

Challenges remain, however, including the high initial cost of vehicles, managing recharging time, adapting infrastructures and regulatory uncertainties.

Arval, the mobility solutions specialist of the BNP Paribas Group, currently manages a fleet of 1.7 million vehicles. Of these, more than 509,000 are electrified, of which 206,000 are 100% electric vehicles (BEVs). The growth of these BEVs within the fleet is very rapid, with an increase of 65% in one year, while the total number of electric vehicles has increased by 40% compared to 2023.

'Step by step, by gradually removing the anxiety linked to the use of electric vehicles, by supporting our customers, by making our fleets greener, and thanks to the recharging infrastructure that is increasingly being developed on the public network, to the technologies that are improving and enabling greater autonomy for electric vehicles, and making it easier to recharge electric vehicles ... we're on our way!' Ingrid PAUTRAT
