Published On 16.03.2023

"On the Move" is BNP Paribas' podcast series on sustainable mobility. In this third episode, we head to the United States, the birthplace of one of the world's leading automotive industries, and the source of many innovations. Matthieu Soulé, Director of BNP Paribas C.Lab Americas and Cardif Lab' correspondent in San Francisco, gives an overview of the major trends this very specific market now faces with a growing demand for more sustainable mobility, and shares comparisons with the European and Asian markets.

On the Move #3 - Sustainable mobility: the specificities of US market

A country where long distance travel by car is a way of life for many, fuel that is often cheaper than elsewhere, a historically dynamic and innovative automotive industry: the US market has characteristics that have shaped car manufacturing and usage. At a time when reducing greenhouse gas emissions is at the heart of environmental concerns, however, vehicle design and production as well as usage is adapting and evolving. For several years now, California has spearheaded the electric vehicle market, and acts as a laboratory for innovation with increasingly connected and autonomous vehicles.

BNP Paribas, present at the major sustainable mobility events in 2023

Sustainable mobility is a key area of development for the Group, which will be present at two upcoming events related to this theme:

  • AUTONOMY Moblity World Expo 2023.
The 7th edition of the world's largest trade fair dedicated to sustainable mobility solutions will be held on March 22 and 23 in Paris, Porte de Versailles. This international event will bring together the main players in the ecosystem, and will offer our specialised businesses to share their expertise and to connect with players in the market on this year’s key themes: electric vehicle fleets and transforming infrastructures.
  • Drive to Zero, the new meeting place for carbon-free mobility players, will be held at the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris from April 5 to 7. The aim of this event is to bring together public and private players in one place to accelerate the deployment of new solutions that meet the challenges of green mobility.

Mobility at the heart of BNP Paribas' strategy

BNP Paribas already has a strong and legitimate presence in the various areas of mobility expertise, whether through its specialist subsidiaries Arval, BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions and BNP Paribas Personal Finance, but also through its commercial and investment banking platforms.

As part of its GTS 2025 plan, BNP Paribas aims to accelerate its clients' transition to sustainable mobility by putting its integrated model at their service, reinforced by a cross-functional approach to this issue. The Group can thus offer, across the entire value chain, a unique range of innovative solutions that effectively meet all their needs.
