The first Paris Peace Forum will take place at the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris, from 11 to 13 November 2018. The event, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron and supported by BNP Paribas, is the new annual event for global governance ideas and projects.
In the face of growing tensions in today’s world and inspired by the model of COP21, the Paris Peace Forum is based on the conviction that lasting peace can only be attained through transborder cooperation.
As a platform for discussion and debate, the Forum aims to bring global governance players together. Nearly 20,000 stakeholders from the worlds of politics, economics and academics will attend, as well as people from civil society and the media. They will join each other in a shared ambition: to advance governance projects but also to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Designed around 5 key topics, the Forum offers meetings, debates and workshops, as well as the chance to share experiences and solutions.

Following a call for projects in July 2018, nearly 120 projects led by civil society players as well as governments were selected out of 900 entries from 116 countries. One of them is the Sustainable Finance Facility project by BNP Paribas, which proposes two initiatives that mobilise the private sector to finance large projects that will favour development and the environment in the Global South.
Inaugurated by about 100 heads of state and government and foreign dignitaries, the Forum will gather participants from around the world for 3 days, giving them the opportunity to debate with experts on global governance solutions, discover the selected projects, and participate in joint workshops.

DiscoverFollowing the launch of the 1st initiative called Tropical Landscape Finance Facility (TLFF) in Indonesia at the end of 2016, BNP Paribas and UNEP signed an agreement in December 2017 to support projects for smallholder farmers in fields like access to renewable energies, agroforestry, access to water, etc. TLFF is a green lending platform aimed at financing projects that change the lives of millions of Indonesians in rural areas. The operation was finalised in 2018: a vast, sustainable natural-rubber plantation, approved by the WWF, was financed through a debt platform set up by BNP Paribas.
Since then, in June 2018, BNP Paribas and UNEP announced Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF), an initiative with the Indian government of Andhra Pradesh as part of the Sustainable India Finance Facility (SIFF). Zero Budget Natural Farming is an ancestral technique to develop the productivity of farms while limiting the outside purchasing of grains, fertilizers and chemical products by combining various crops and breeding.
