Volunteer hours with a tangible impact
At BNP Paribas, social responsibility isn’t just a policy, it’s a shared passion driven by employees across the globe. The proof? Our 1MillionHours2Help programme has surpassed its original target, which aims for BNP Paribas employees to volunteer one million hours of solidarity action over a rolling two-year period. This collective achievement and dedication from BNP Paribas employees reflects the Group’s strong commitment to building a more fair, inclusive and sustainable world.
A one-of-kind programme with an extraordinary response
Launched in 2020, BNP Paribas' volunteer programme “1MillionHours2Help” encourages each employee to volunteer during work hours, both individually and part as a team, to support nonprofits and other solidarity initiatives with their time and expertise. The 1MillionHours2Help programme focuses on four key pillars aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Accelerate the energy transition and protecting biodiversity
- Fostering social inclusion, especially for young people, and fighting poverty
- Strengthening local communities where the Group operates
- Supporting social entrepreneurship initiatives

Boosting Societal Impact through Concrete Action
The success of 1MillionHours2Help relies on four ways for employes to get involved: solidarity missions, team-building for good, pro bono work, and individual action. Employees are encouraged to contribute in ways that suit their skills and schedules, including:
- Protecting our planet: As part of the Year of the Ocean and in alignment with World Clean Up Day, the Group united nearly 3,000 employees across 20 countries, organising over 65 clean-up operations worldwide. The result? 12 tonnes of waste collected, demonstrating BNP Paribas’ hands-on commitment to environmental preservation.
- Mentoring young people for the workforce: through different programmes, BNP Paribas pair employees with young people seeking career guidance, both in France and abroad. This is a key way to help level the playing field for young people eager to access to employment.
- Supporting reservists and volunteer firefighters: Through agreements with the French Ministry of Defence and Home Office, BNP Paribas employees who are reservists and volunteer firefighters are able take up to 15 extra days per year—on full pay—beyond legal requirements, to fulfil their civic duties.
2026: A year of volunteering and ambition
With the United Nations marking 2026 as the “International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development”, BNP Paribas is calling on its teams and employees to go even further to broaden their impact like never before.
