What does BNP Paribas do for the ecological transition and inclusion?

At the beginning of 2023, several actors in the banking and insurance sectors announced the creation of a societal or ecological dividends, dedicating part of their results and profits to environmental, solidarity and prevention projects, creating an opportunity to take a closer look at some of BNP Paribas’ related actions and commitments. This is an opportunity to take stock of BNP Paribas' actions and commitments in this area.

Maximising positive impact

The Group's strategy aims to make strong use of its financing capacity, balance sheet and savings collection to achieve maximum environmental and social impact. In addition, there are significant resources dedicated to philanthropy. As a reminder, here are the main sustainable commitments of our 2025 GTS strategic plan

  • By 2025, the Group intends to grant 350 billion euros in sustainable loans and bonds to support its customers in the transition towards a low carbon and more socially inclusive economy. 
  • By 2025, BNP Paribas Asset Management will manage 300 billion euros of assets under management of funds classified as SFDR 8 & 9, i.e. promoting environmental or social characteristics or pursuing a sustainable investment objective.

What about the Group's activities with no objective of profitability?

  • We have made a commitment to dedicate, by 2025, 250 million euros of the Bank’s own capital to an investment envelope to support young innovative companies that develop solutions with social, local and environmental impacts. 

  • In 2021, financing and investment of Microfinance institutions reached 367 million euros and Institutions helped support 224,000 beneficiaries in 14 countries. Bringing the cumulative total of financing over 30 years to 1.2 billion!

  • As of October 2022, the Group’s Solidarity Funds had invested 156 million euros in the form of long term loans to some thirty associations such as ADIE, acted, Foncière Habitat and Humanisme. 

  • By the end of 2022, "Act for Impact," our programme dedicated to actors within the social and solidarity economy, benefitted 2,200 social businesses in France with a total of 1.2 billion euros in financing. 

  • In 2022, in a context marked by the Ukrainian crisis and the aftermath of the global pandemic, a global donation of 100 million euros was made, in keeping with four decades of pioneering philanthropy policy.
