A permanent artist at Théâtre National de Chaillot, choreographer José Montalvo is well-known for her festive choreographies combining video with various dance genres (classical, contemporary, hip-hop, flamenco…).
To stage Shiganè Naï (The Age of Time), José Montalvo worked with dancers from the National Dance Company of Korea who had received their training in traditional ballet. By using video as an art form, the choreographer gently ushers them beyond the Korean tradition to present an explosive ballet.
Acknowledged as one of the few corporate sponsors of contemporary dance, BNP Paribas Foundation supports Théâtre National de Chaillot for the “International Focus” events, this year highlighting South Korea.
« It’s like an entertainment, blending exuberance, peculiarity, poetry, a good laugh and sensuality that is in keeping, consciously and unconsciously, with traditional Korean choreography. » Philippe Noisette
Shiganè Naï will be performed at Palais de Chaillot in Paris from 16-24 June 2016.
