All that jazz
17.04.2015 | Corporate philanthropy
During the last ten years over 400 musicians have helped to turn this festival, held in the atmospheric setting of Casablanca, Morocco, into a key jazz event, which has since last year enjoyed the support of the BMCI Foundation.
A decade of annual concerts packed with passion, sharing and interaction. The festival has established its reputation as a really exceptional event, featuring the top jazz and world music artistes on the planet – Al Di Meola, Marcus Miller, Gloria Gaynor, Keziah Jones, Dhafer Youssef, Ibrahim Maalouf, Al Jarreau, Billy Paul, Chick Corea, Patti Smith, and many others – with a total audience now in its tens of thousands over the period.
The BMCI Foundation has set out to focus its corporate sponsorship activities on jazz, becoming official Sponsor of the Jazzablanca festival for the first time in 2014. For its initial contribution, the Foundation last year offered the Morocco audiences a week of free concerts, enabling some 12,000 people to enjoy a mixed programme combining ancestral music and groove played by new talent from all over the world.
This initiative is very much in the spirit of the strong commitment shown over many years by the BNP Paribas Foundation to jazz musicians and festivals, an artistic field which has generally been rather neglected by corporate philanthropists.
