Discover the final episode of the Southern Ocean Mission webseries!

Made by Universcience.tv in partnership with the BNP Paribas Foundation, this production followed the scientific teams of the SOCLIM mission, who left onboard the Marion Dufresne for a month in the Southern Ocean. Their goal? Collect unprecedented data in order to study the influence of oceans on the climate.

Episode #9 – Mission accomplished

The expedition is almost over. The scientific teams of the SOCLIM mission have fulfilled their objectives and are now doing a first overview of their oceanographic campaign. Everyone shares about their experience on board during the 27-day-long expedition.

From now on, the samples that were collected and the measuring instruments that were deployed will supply the scientific community with new data and will allow them to better understand the oceanic mechanisms that occur in the carbon cycle.

For SOCLIM, it was time for the first overview while the Marion Dufresne came near its home port at La Réunion. Don't forget to activate subtitles
“ I think it’s very important that the efforts we have been investing for 10, 15 or 20 years do not come to a stop. The trick to better understanding a system lies in continuity; we can’t visit a region 2 or 3 times, make a couple measurements and tell ourselves we understood everything ”
