Bruno Mantovani, Head of the Paris Conservatoire: “Opera should be shared”
Bruno Mantovani, born on 8 October 1974, is first of all a composer and conductor. He was awarded 5 first prizes by the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), before becoming Head of the institution in 2010.
Important dates in his career
After graduating from the CNSMDP in 2000 and having completed a course in music informatics at IRCAM, he embarked on an international career crowned with success. His works pay tribute to great names in Western music (Bach, Gesualdo, Rameau, Schubert, Schumann) as well as popular genres (jazz, oriental music), and are performed in prestigious concert halls like La Scala in Milan, the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, and the Lincoln Center in New York.
Fascinated by the relationship between music and other forms of artistic expression, he has worked with novelists, librettists, chefs and choreographers.
In 2010, he joined forces with the Opéra National de Paris and created the ballet Siddharta in 2010, and the opera Akhmatova in 2011. For the 2014-2015 season he produced a radio programme on France Musique focusing on the pleasurable aspect of music.
For Bruno Mantovani, modern music must be versatile. Students at the Paris Conservatoire come from around the world and should be given the opportunity to “experience Parisian life” and attend the greatest music and dance performances at the Opera.
modern music must be versatile
This is why he supports the initiative launched by the BNP Paribas Foundation and the Opéra National de Paris with previews for young people under 28, at EUR 10 a ticket. Every season, the BNP Paribas Foundation offers 400 tickets to students of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
“ The Opera is a melting pot of the arts: stage production, theatre, literature and of course music. It is a total performance, and any student of the Conservatoire should be able to go to the Opera easily ”
