The position at a glance

This role supports the BNP Paribas mission by strengthening the second line of defense through the assessment of internal controls for financial reporting and regulatory compliance. The position aims to ensure that IT general and dependency controls are designed and operating effectively to mitigate applicable risks. By performing rigorous testing and providing subject matter expertise, the role helps protect the integrity of the firm's financial and regulatory reporting processes.

The Finance Control Group (FCG) is a transversal function within CIB Finance whose primary roles are:

  • To develop and implement a strong financial and regulatory control framework for CIB entities;
  • To perform 2nd level of controls and/or management assessment for controls primarily run by Finance and non-Finance teams;
  • To provide management reporting on main controls areas, for both local and group needs and requirements;

Main aspects of the programs include:

  • Performing risk identification and assessment over financial statements (ICFR) and regulatory reports (ICOC);
  • Conducting walkthroughs, tests of design and tests of operating effectiveness over in-scope process and controls;
  • Conducting regulatory data testing, including transaction testing, over certain regulatory reports and datasets;
  • Evaluating and communicating with relevant stakeholder’s exceptions and control deficiencies identified during the testing;
  • Collecting relevant data and preparing presentation material for various committees, including Executive committee and Board of Directors committees;
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders to improve data quality of information used by the firm;

In detail

The role will report to the IT Control Manager, embedded within the Financial Control Group. The FCG IT Control function is responsible for developing strategy and testing the IT General and IT Dependencies Controls (“ITGC/ITD”), which have impact over ICFR and ICOC. The position is expected to carry out testing responsibilities for ITGC/ITD, provides SME knowledge, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders. His/her expertise will support the management and Board of IHC and its subsidiaries to ensure that relevant internal controls are in place, designed, and operating effectively to mitigate the applicable risk.

The team members are responsible for the following activities:

Specific responsibilities will be to assess the organization’s internal control of the IT set-up and processes used to source, process, and perform financial and regulatory reporting, including, but not limited to, IT dependency controls (application functionalities, data processing, SSAE 18 report review), and IT general controls. 

  • Identify key processes, risks, and controls relating to IT general and application controls to maintain a robust control framework.
  • Participate in walkthroughs and review risk and control matrices to assess and address potential control gaps.
  • Coordinate with various control units to execute tests of controls and communicate identified deficiencies to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collect relevant data and prepare presentation materials for management and Board committees to support informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate with multi-location teams in Montreal, Mumbai, and New Jersey to execute and deliver assignments according to global standards.
  • Contribute to the review and presentation of control results to respective management and Board committees to ensure transparency.
  • Leverage tools such as Power BI and Tableau to develop dynamic reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Assess the organization’s internal IT setup and processes to ensure the reliability of financial and regulatory reporting.
  • Review application functionalities, data processing, and SSAE 18 reports to validate IT dependency controls.

Staff supervision/ Organizational Structure: 

The role will report to the IT Control Manager, embedded within the Financial Control Group.

Work conditions: 

This position provides for standard working conditions in an office and a normal work schedule from Monday to Friday. This position requires little travel.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Audit, Finance or Information systems/IT audit.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
  • The knowledge of English is required. *
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in banking or external audit and/or advisory firm, auditing relevant processes of international financial institutions, performing process walkthroughs and independent testing.
  • IT audit methodology and regulatory awareness to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Stakeholder management through collaborative interaction with various departments to manage projects and expectations.
  • Reasoned problem solving when performing data analysis and manipulation.
  • Effective communication to clearly articulate complex issues and requests to stakeholders.
  • Practical understanding of the COSO framework and internal control requirements under SOX for IT components.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Project for professional documentation and reporting.
  • Proficient use of programming and audit languages such as ACL and SQL for technical data tasks.
  • Responsible planning and organizational skills to handle complex projects and meet deadlines in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Collaborative teamwork when working with global teams to ensure high-quality results.
  • *Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Professional working proficiency in English language is required.
