Good trend of economic growth and earnings, improvement in the stock market environment and easing political tensions underpin the 2019 investment themes selected by BNP Paribas Wealth Management strategists in the US, Europe and Asia to guide investors towards attractive opportunities. These themes – anticipating markets’ growth potential – are therefore oriented towards taking risk and mostly focus on equity markets. The first two, however, offer alternatives for investors with a more conservative risk profile. The 10 investment themes are articulated as follows: cautious strategies, themes dedicated to Asia, themes dedicated to equity markets and theme dedicated to currency diversification.

Sale of SBI Life shares by BNP Paribas Group

Sale of SBI Life shares by BNP Paribas Group BNP Paribas announces the sale on the Bombay Stock Exchange of 9.23% of SBI Life capital by its insurance subsidiary BNP Paribas Cardif on 1 March 2019.  BNP Paribas Cardif sold on the market 92.25 million shares of SBI Life, of which 90 million have been acquired by an affiliate entity of The Carlyle Group.   It is expected that this transaction will generate a capital gain after tax of more than 450 million euros in BNP Paribas Group first quarter 2019 results and will have a positive impact on the Group CET1 ratio of close to 5bp as at 31 March 2019 (after applying a dividend pay-out ratio of 50%).  Following this transaction, BNP Paribas Cardif will hold a stake of 12.77% in SBI Life capital.

BNP Paribas reinforces its commitment to tennis and its support of young generations through training programmes with John and Patrick McEnroe in the US and with Yannick Noah in France

In May 2018, BNP Paribas launched the ‘BNP Paribas Young Talent Team’ initiative, mentored by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and in association with the French Tennis Federation, to give the most deserving and promising young talent the best possible chance of reaching the highest levels of the sport. Sale of SBI Life shares by BNP Paribas Group

BNP Paribas announces the sale on the Bombay Stock Exchange of 50.74 million shares of SBI Life (i.e. 5.07% of its capital) by its insurance subsidiary BNP Paribas Cardif on 29 March 2019. It is expected that this transaction will generate a capital gain after tax of about 300 million euros in BNP Paribas Group first quarter 2019. Following this transaction, BNP Paribas Cardif will hold a stake of 7.70% in SBI Life capital.

Share buyback transactions have developed significantly in recent years. In the US, S&P 500 companies bought more than 1 trillion dollars of their own shares in 2018, according to TrimTabs RI, beating the 2017 record. The same trend can be found in Europe, as demonstrated by the April 2019 study carried out jointly by Exane BNP Paribas and BNP Paribas CIB with a panel of 145 companies. Of the companies surveyed*, nearly 50% have an active share buyback programme while 10% are considering implementing one as part of their internal debate on how to optimise the return of value to their shareholders.

BNP Paribas’ ClimateSeed is one of the six accepted carbon offsets programs in IFC’s Zero Carbon Green Buildings certificate under the IFC Edge program. To certify their buildings Zero Carbon, real estate developers first reduce their buildings’ emissions through green building practices and can then offset any remaining emissions through ClimateSeed. Building developers can choose from over 30 projects available on the ClimateSeed platform by project location, type or SDGs targeted.
