Max Jadot becomes CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board as from 1 March 2011
Meeting on 2 December 2010, the Board of Directors of BNP Paribas Fortis (Fortis Bank SA/NV) decided on a number of new appointments.
In May 2009, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas, was appointed CEO of BNP Paribas Fortis for the period in which operations were being merged with the Group. Now that the main work has been successfully accomplished and the merger is proceeding extremely well, the moment has arrived to hand over the reins to a Belgian manager with intimate knowledge of the main markets in which BNP Paribas Fortis operates.
Max Jadot (53) is to succeed Jean-Laurent Bonnafé. He will become CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board as from 1 March 2011. He will take his seat on the Bank's Board of Directors at its first meeting of 2011. After joining Générale de Banque in 1983, Mr Jadot pursued his entire career within the Fortis group and, when BNP Paribas Fortis was created, he became a Member of the Executive Committee and Head of the Corporate and Public Bank Department.
Second to Max Jadot will be Filip Dierckx, COO and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board, whose duties remain unchanged.
Peter Vandekerckhove, a Member of the Bank's Executive Committee and Head of the Private & Retail Bank Department will be proposed as member of the Board of Directors at the AGM on 21 April 2011 and will on that date join the bank's Executive Board.
The Board of Directors thanked Jean-Laurent Bonnafé for the work he has accomplished with all teams, underlining that he has carried through the merger within deadline and on budget, while enabling the Bank to play its full role as a major provider of finance to the Belgian economy.
The Board of Directors expressed its full confidence in Max Jadot, and in the Executive Committee to continue to develop the Bank in support of the personal and professional aspirations of millions of Belgian citizens who entrust their finances to the Bank. Sophie Dutordoir Appointed to the Board of Directors
Sophie Dutordoir was co-opted on to the Board of Directors of Fortis Bank SA/NV as an independent Board member. She replaces Gérard Lamarche, who earlier this year announced his wish to resign from the Board for professional reasons.
Sophie Dutordoir is a Director and General Manager at Electrabel. Since joining the company in 1990, Ms Dutordoir has worked in a number of management positions at Electrabel and Fluxys. In May 2007 she was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Fluxys, a post she occupied until her return to Electrabel in January 2009, where she was appointed President and CEO of the GDF SUEZ Group's Energy Benelux-Germany Division.
The appointments thus proposed and decided by the Board still remain to be submitted to the competent authorities for their approval.
