What the experts are saying: a look back on this year’s "Perspectives"

Over the course of 2023, the magazine “Perspectives” looked at the main trends and themes of today with two questions: how to foster both a just transition and more sustainable finance? Calling on renowned experts from within and outside BNP Paribas, the Group’s NEST (Network of Experts in Sustainability Transitions) explored the energy transition, biodiversity, social inclusion and sustainable finance in general. In December 2023, a special edition on renewable energy

As COP28 comes to an end, “Perspectives” takes stock of one of the summit’s primary topics: renewable energies, whose capacities must be tripled by 2030. From large issues to specific ones ranging from future challenges, recent developments, relation to biodiversity to a zoom on heat pumps or individualized solar. BNP Paribas, the world leader in green financing according to Bloomberg, has put support for the energy transition at the heart of its business model.

In September 2023, a look at the role of sustainable finance in the transition 

In a period of profound reflection on the role played by financial actors on ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues, "Perspectives" asked experts: how should the financial sector approach sustainable finance? How can regulation help shape a more sustainable future? What are the benefits of financial products designed with a sustainable approach?

In June 2023, spotlight on biodiversity and natural capital

While the TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures) was working on its latest recommendations – issued in September 2023 – “Perspectives” drew on the expertise of well-known experts to take stock of the challenges facing biodiversity… and how the financial sector can help.

In April 2023, a special edition on the just transition and study with Ipsos

For this special edition of the magazine “Perspectives” dedicated to just transition, BNP Paribas’ NEST (Network of Experts in Sustainability Transitions) drew on the expertise of Ipsos. 9500 people were interviewed in 10 European countries to obtain their impressions of climate change, energy transition and the very notion of the ‘just transition’. Among the results? More than six in ten respondents reported limiting their car travel.

Who creates Perspectives?

"Perspectives” is a quarterly publication dedicated to ESG issues and designed by the coordination team of the Network of Experts in Sustainability Transitions (NEST). This internal cross-functional network brings together more than 700 experts in sustainable finance from all BNP Paribas business lines and functions, who pool their expertise to serve the transition of the Group’s clients.
