Published On 20.05.2025

From 13 to 24 May, the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, chaired by Juliette Binoche, will shine its spotlight to the Croisette! The world’s most prestigious film festival will feature movies competing for the Golden Palm and other awards across various categories. As Europe’s top bank for the film industry, BNP Paribas is present at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the sector. This includes financing films, organising eco-production and meetings with professionals and emerging filmmaking talent, providing backstage access through the We Love Cinema programme, and much more.

27 films financed by BNP Paribas are being presented at Cannes 2025

As a partner of cinema for over 100 years, BNP Paribas is proud to promote films at Cannes that showcase creativity on the international stage. Eco-production: towards a more responsible and sustainable cinema

As well as showcasing films, Cannes provides a unique opportunity each year to consider the future of cinema. Eco-production is one of tomorrow’s key challenges. Rethinking the film production process to reduce its environmental impact without compromising creativity – that is fully in line with BNP Paribas’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, a commitment that we actively promote alongside our partners.

As a BNP Paribas subsidiary, Cofiloisirs is committed to eco-production in the French and European audiovisual industries, helping its clients to adopt sustainable production practices. Cofiloisirs is backed by the Ecoprod label, the only French certification for audiovisual eco-production audited by a certified independent third party supported and validated by the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Efficiency (ADEME). Cofiloisirs has set up a €500,000 fund to support projects from its clients that meet strict environmental criteria. This is based on a precise benchmark for measuring a project’s environmental impact expressed as an eco-production score. Each year and for five years, the five projects with the best eco-scores will receive a €20,000 bonus. Through this initiative, Cofiloisirs aims to promote sustainable production practices by rewarding the most eco-responsible projects.

Through Cofiloisirs, the Group also contributed to the financing of the film "Jeunes mères", directed by Luc et jean-Pierre Dardenne, winner of the Ecoprod Prize which awards the eco-produced films selected at Cannes.

As an extension to this initiative and via its Image & Media Business Centre, BNP Paribas also took part in a panel discussion at Cannes, alongside the French Centre National du Cinéma (CNC), to raise awareness among professionals of the challenges of more responsible production.

BNP Paribas: supporting talent on and off the big screen

Sharing the same vision for the future, BNP Paribas also supports those who are shaping tomorrow's cinema. The Group is a partner of the Directors’ Fortnight and the Semaine de la Critique, two sections running alongside the Festival that showcase bold filmmaking from around the globe and help emerging talent to flourish. This commitment extends beyond Cannes, with the support for Fortnight Extended, which showcases Directors’ Fortnight films throughout France, to raise public awareness of them. Overall, the Group invites more than 850 clients and film enthusiasts to screenings of these Cannes Film Festival flagship sections.

Cannes is also a forum for dialogue, interaction and promotion. BNP Paribas is on site and is organising several events on the BNP Paribas Terrace, a meeting place for bank clients and partners. In keeping with this spirit of sharing and conveying, the BNP Paribas Terrace is hosting new cinematic talents during a meeting between moviemakers of the Factory, which brings together directors from around the world, along with major producers.

We Love Cinema

There’s a whole world going on backstage at Cannes. BNP Paribas shares these moments at We Love Cinema, offering exclusive content, interviews, encounters, and much more. These shared moments allow as many people as possible to experience the magic of Cannes and put the spotlight on the people behind the movies!

BNP Paribas is a partner of "Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning", which is being presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival. The Group has organised over 10 sneak previews of the film on 20 May 2025 throughout France. This is an opportunity to discover the latest episode of Mission: Impossible exclusively at this new showcase cinema, which opened its doors on 30 April 2025. A total of almost 2,500 bank clients and movie-lovers have been invited to the screenings.

A special mention for "The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol"

Among the films BNP Paribas has supported this year, "The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol" stands out. Directed by Sylvain Chomet, a four-time Oscar nominee and the director of "The Triplets of Belleville" and "The Illusionist", this animated biopic follows the path taken by the famous writer and director Marcel Pagnol through an imaginary dialogue between him as a child and him as an adult.

Presented at a Special Session at Cannes, Sylvain Chomet’s film holds symbolic importance, since Marcel Pagnol himself handed over the very first Golden Palm, in 1955. Somewhere between a tribute and a celebration of cultural heritage, "The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol" embodies the deeply human cinema of cultural transmission that the Group is proud to support. BNP Paribas helped finance the film through its Images & Media Business Centre and Cofiloisirs and will support its theatrical release on 15 October 2025.
