The second Dansathon will take place from November 20 to 22, 2020 in Liège, if the global health situation permits, as part of the IMPACT International Meeting in Performing Arts & Creative Technologies. Instigated and sponsored by the BNP Paribas Foundation, the event is being co-organized by the Maison de la Danse in Lyon, Sadler’s Wells in London and the Théâtre de Liège.

Call for proposals for Dansathon 2020:

At a time of pandemic and social distancing, the Dansathon has gained even more importance by providing an opportunity to give rise to new forms of dance. The competition is open to dancers, choreographers, designers, web developers, students, startups and creatives of all kinds. Forty-eight participants will be selected. Candidates may submit their proposals between June 16 and August 16, 2020 on the website www.dansathon.eu.

During this three-day event, the 48 participants will be divided into eight multidisciplinary teams.

They will be asked to produce a dance performance prototype, a short creative format or an installation that must reflect the cross-disciplinary nature of their collaboration.

Combining dance with digital tech

Digital technologies –  e.g. motion capture, IA, VR, video games and the use of data – are central to the Dansathon, which offers an excellent opportunity to explore new forms of dance in step with new technologies and produce creative projects that reflect the “new normal”, including social distancing.

On Sunday November 22, the final projects will be exhibited to the public and assessed by an international jury of artists, representatives of institutions, CEOs, transmedia experts and journalists. The BNP Paribas Foundation will grant each team selected by the jury the amount of €20,000 to pursue and develop their project.

BNP Paribas sponsors contemporary creation

Culture is one of the three mission domains of the BNP Paribas Foundation. For more than thirty years, the Foundation has sponsored contemporary dance and supported artists that create and explore new territories.

Today, the public health crisis has devastated the cultural sector, including live performances. By sponsoring an event like the Dansathon and thus supporting contemporary creativity, the Foundation hopes to play a part in helping the cultural sector rally. The Fondation BNP Paribas and three partner theatres announce the launch of the call for applications for the 2nd edition of the DANSATHON, the international dance hackathon
