Vice President – Network Security Officer

Business Overview:

IT Production Americas is the central entity of BNP Paribas, which provides technology and serves all entities and business lines of the bank. Covering North and South America under the responsibility of the Regional CTO.

Responsibilities: 

Part of the Network Security team, the Network Security Officer primarily covers the management of Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) technologies and is responsible for monitoring, configuring, and optimizing our security infrastructure to protect against cyber threats, ensure compliance, and maintain the integrity of our systems. Key Responsibilities include

  • WAF & IPS Management:
    • Configure, deploy, and maintain Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS).
    • Monitor security alerts and respond to potential threats in real time.
    • Fine-tune security policies to minimize false positives while ensuring robust protection.
  • Firewall Rules Management:
    • Design, implement, and maintain firewall rules to enforce security policies.
    • Conduct regular reviews and audits of firewall configurations to ensure optimal security.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve firewall-related issues, including misconfigurations and performance bottlenecks.
    • Collaborate with network and security teams to align firewall rules with organizational security policies.
  • Threat Detection & Incident Response:
    • Analyze security logs and events to identify suspicious activities.
    • Collaborate with the Security Incident Response teams to investigate and mitigate security incidents, including DDoS attacks, SQL injections, and other exploits.
    • Collaborate with the SOC (Security Operations Center) team to enhance threat detection capabilities.
  • Policy & Compliance:
    • Ensure security policies align with industry standards (e.g., OWASP, NIST, ISO 27001).
    • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
    • Assist in compliance with reporting for regulatory requirements.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Optimize WAF/IPS rules to balance security and performance.
    • Work with DevOps and Network teams to integrate security best practices into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Documentation & Training:
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation on security configurations and incident response procedures.
    • Provide training and guidance to IT staff on security best practices.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills:
    • Hands-on experience with WAF solutions (e.g., AWS WAF, Cloudflare, Imperva, F5 ASM).
    • Proficiency in IPS/IDS tools (e.g., Snort, Suricata, Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower).
    • Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS).
    • Knowledge of OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques.
    • Experience in firewall management (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point).
    • Ability to analyze and optimize firewall rule sets for performance and security.
    • Familiarity with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK, QRadar).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills for reporting security incidents.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Education & Certifications (Preferred):
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
    • Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+, or vendor-specific WAF/IPS certifications.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $145k to $205k annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
