ROLE/ DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE 

We have an excellent career opportunity for a Senior Equity Analyst (Role ID: R019281) on our US & Global Thematic Equity Team in the Boston office. This successful candidate will be responsible for generating alpha through fundamental research and actionable recommendations within the healthcare sector. The role will support the BNP Paribas Healthcare Innovators Fund, our US equity strategies (small, mid and large cap) and other relevant funds. Prior healthcare sector experience is required. The candidate will report to the Head of the US & Global Thematic Equity Team and will work closely with, and take direction from, the lead portfolio manager of the Healthcare Innovators Fund as well as the broader investment team collaborating regularly and supporting the investment process. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct industry and stock analysis within the healthcare sector in order to identify key industry trends and identify prospective equity investments. This involves,
    • Collecting and analyzing clinical data
    • Analyzing competitive market dynamics
    • Evaluating barriers to entry 
    • Assessing market opportunities 
    • Analyzing the financial positioning and opportunities of prospective investments 
    • Assessing valuation, risk and reward
  • Develop and communicate comprehensive investment theses, including:
    • Rigorous industry and competitive analysis, assessing management quality, business models, market positioning, and competitive dynamics;
    • Detailed financial modeling and valuation work, including identification of key value drivers, scenario analysis, and development of price targets; and
    • Thorough risk assessment, incorporating financial, operational, and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) considerations.
  • Monitor portfolio holdings in assigned industries. Maintain updated financial models and price targets. Recommend add/ trim trades as appropriate based on target price and market conditions.
  • Share investment research and ideas with all portfolio managers within the US and Global Thematic Equity Team and, as appropriate, with the broader Fundamental Active Equity group within BNPP Asset Management.
  • Participate in our team-based decision-making process for stock selection across all sectors.
  • Work efficiently within, and provide input to improve, the existing investment process.
  • Travel periodically to visit companies, attend industry conferences and attend investment conferences 
  • Support the sales team when required, through participation in client meetings and other activities 
  • Take primary coverage responsibilities (and ramp coverage) of the following industry groups as an investment analyst: 
    • Medical technology
    • Life science tools and CRO’s 
    • Diagnostics 
    • Healthcare services 
  • Support the lead portfolio manager in managing the relevant funds
  • Collaborate with FAE peers to source ideas for healthcare stocks outside of the US 
  • Initiate trade requests for the relevant healthcare strategies and mandates, when the lead portfolio manager is not available
  • Assist with monitoring positions held, portfolio construction decisions, and portfolio analysis (performance, risk profile, ESG profile, exposure to themes, exposure to factors).
  • Maintain comparison spreadsheets to monitor financial and other metrics, in order to track stocks in the portfolio and on the monitor list, in covered industries
  • Participate in client meetings, including periodic reviews with existing clients and meetings with prospective clients
  • Aid in the analysis of portfolio performance and risk data 
  • Participate in healthcare sector pod meetings including the preparation of presentations of materials 

KEY INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Experience conducting fundamental equity analysis within the healthcare sector 
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification and/or MBA strongly preferred; CPA or finance/accounting degree may substitute
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write and present comprehensive investment theses
  • Ability to build extensive financial models in Excel; experience with FactSet or Bloomberg preferred

Physical presence in office is an essential function of this position. This role has the flexibility of being hybrid, consisting of an in office and remote working component. 

The expected starting salary range for this position in Boston is between $150,000 to $200,000 annually. Actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
