Job Title: Associate 

Department: Business Services Operations (BSO) – Global Custody Tax

About Business line/Function: The Global Custody team within Paribas Securities Services is organized into Corporate Actions, Income, and Tax to maximize operational efficiency and accuracy. The Global Custody Tax team is responsible for handling client documentation that enables tax benefits for our clients. The role supports the daily processing of tax‑related activities in line with the standing operating procedures.

Position Purpose: To execute end‑to‑end tax processing activities for the Global Custody portfolio, ensuring accurate documentation, timely tax‑reclaim handling, and compliance with applicable tax regulations while delivering high-quality client experience and meeting KPI targets.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

  • Act as a reference point for team members; train and guide them through daily activities.
  • Allocate work, set priorities, and manage complex tasks in daily operations.
  • Perform “checker” functions for all manual activities related to tax functions.
  • Deliver and meet KPI targets in accordance with the set standards.
  • Collect, analyse, and review tax information and documentation to ensure completeness and correctness.
  • Update the tax database, applying the correct fiscal treatment based on applicable DTA, client residence/status, and sub‑custodian procedures.
  • Provide clients with regular market updates and tax matrices.
  • Manage fiscal documentation required for relief‑at‑source; monitor and apply correct withholding tax as per rules.
  • Prepare tax‑reclaim forms, track reclaim status via the tax‑reclaim system, and follow‑up on pending items.
  • Collect funds from tax authorities and sub‑custodians and refund them to the client.
  • Provide certifications or disclosures to tax authorities/sub‑custodians as requested, ensuring clients receive eligible rates.
  • Justify and resolve cash breaks to Control Teams.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions; share best practices and ideas with peer groups and team members.
  • Consistently evaluate and update documented procedures to keep them complete, accurate, and current.
  • Perform daily controls on team activity using existing check‑lists to ensure priorities are respected and tasks are correctly performed.
  • Escalate any incident or operational risk to the Team Leader.
  • Work flexible shifts supporting Asia / Americas / European business hours and adhere to BCP protocols.

Contributing Responsibilities

  • Support BSO initiatives and cross‑functional projects as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous‑improvement programmes and process‑optimisation work‑streams.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

Technical

  • Strong understanding of tax laws, withholding taxes, and Double Tax Treaty Agreements (DTA).
  • Knowledge of international taxation, relief‑at‑source, and tax‑reclaim processes.
  • Ability to analyse tax documentation, determine correct fiscal treatment, and update systems accordingly.
  • Strong MS‑Word and Excel skills; proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Behavioral

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
  • Service‑oriented mindset with a focus on client satisfaction.

Specific Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3‑6 years of experience in international taxation, tax‑reclaim, or custody‑tax operations.

Education Level: 

· Graduate/Post Graduate degree or equivalent in Commerce / Finance.

· Preferred. Professional tax qualification (CA‑Inter with articleship, Chartered Tax Adviser, etc.) is highly desirable.

Location: Chennai, India (flexible shift coverage).
