Paul Perraudin joins BNP Paribas in Switzerland

The federal investigating magistrate is appointed Head of Compliance, Legal Affairs and Internal Control

BNP Paribas announces the appointment of Paul Perraudin to the newly created position of Head of Compliance, Legal Affairs and Internal Control for the Group in Switzerland. He will take up his position at the headquarters of BNP Paribas (Switzerland) SA in Geneva on 1st November, and will automatically be co-opted onto the Executive Committee. He will report to Pascal Boris, Chief Executive Officer. This appointment will allow the BNP Paribas Group in Switzerland to pursue its growth under optimum security conditions with the benefit of Paul Perraudin's extensive expertise.

This appointment is part of BNP Paribas' drive to strengthen its internal control and non-compliance risk management systems and place them under one central co-ordinator. Around the world, about 2,500 people work for BNP Paribas' Group Risk Management, Compliance and Internal audit.

A federal examining magistrate since 2002, 57-year-old Paul Perraudin has also been head of the French-speaking federal investigating magistrates section in Geneva since 2004. A fellow of the Institut de lutte contre la criminalité économique (ILCE), he also lectures on international legal cooperation. In 2007, he organised the first ILCE study days on the fight against economic and financial crime and money laundering.

Paul Perraudin was motivated to join BNP Paribas by the need to respond to increasingly specific demands in a complex financial environment. "The notion of internal control is a key plank of financial establishments' new strategies. BNP Paribas is one of the banks that very quickly became aware of this factor, making internal controls a priority, which is why it has been able to withstand the current financial crisis well", he explains.

"In addition to his eminent personal qualities, Paul Perraudin will bring to our bank his international vision and the benefit of his experience at the very highest level of responsibility. That is why I am delighted that he will be joining our group”, comments Georges Chodron de Courcel, Chairman of the Board of BNP Paribas (Switzerland) SA.

For Pascal Boris, the arrival of Paul Perraudin will be a major asset for the bank's entire management: “During his 25 years as a magistrate, Paul Perraudin has built up an unrivalled experience in international legal cooperation in complex financial cases. His appointment to a senior position at BNP Paribas Switzerland, the leading foreign bank in Switzerland, will enable us to strengthen our security and internal control systems".
