Laurent Chouraki appointed Chairman and Chief Executive of UCB

Laurent Chouraki, 47 years old, is appointed Chairman and Chief Executive of UCB, subsidiary of BNP Paribas Group specialising in mortgages for individuals. He succeeds Didier Chappet who is joining the management team of the retail banking operations in France.

Laurent Chouraki will also be in charge of the private mortgage business (part of the International Financial Services and Retail Banking division - "SFDI"), which was created following the merger of UCB, Abbey National France and BNP Paribas Investimmo.
UCB specialises in loans to private individuals to purchase property as an investment as well as a residence. It operates not only in France but also Spain, Italy, Portugal, Norway and the Netherlands via various subsidiaries. Its commercial strategy consists of offering services via a network of commercial agents, property professionals or brokers.

Laurent Chouraki, who graduated from HEC (a top French business school) in 1979, joined BNP Paribas Group in 1981. He began his career in corporate and investment banking operations before being appointed head of management accounting and later director of asset management and development. Since 2000 he has been deputy director of the Finance and Development Group of BNP Paribas.

Jean Louis Marlier, 38 years old, who since 1999 has been finance manager of the Asset Management and Services division, takes over from Laurent Chouraki.
