Vigeo rates BNP Paribas as the top bank in its worldwide rankings, with a score of 59/100, compared with an average mark of 34/100 among 2000 companies examined.
Vigeo, the leading European expert in assessing companies and organisations with regard to their practices and performance on environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) issues, has launched under its proprietary brand a range of indices identifying companies which demonstrate best performance in corporate social responsibility in the context of their field of investment. BNP Paribas is named as the number one bank globally in the Vigeo World 120 index and ranked 12th most advanced company across all sectors worldwide, with a ranking of 11th in Europe and 4th in France.
Fouad Benseddik, Director of Methodology and Institutional Relationships at Vigeo, stated: “BNP Paribas is the leader in the banking sector, with a set of very consistent scores of between 52% and 64% in all the areas examined. The Bank's commitment is backed and driven at top level by all managers.”
Companies featured in the Vigeo indices are those achieving the highest score on all criteria, judged on 38 sustainability drivers under which Vigeo reviews company performance measured against up to 330 indicators.
“We see this ranking as leader in the banking sector as recognition of the Group's thoroughgoing initiative in this field, commented Laurence Pessez, Head of Corporate and Social Responsibility at the BNP Paribas Group, explaining: “This initiative is embodied in the BNP Paribas CSR policy, which has been implemented throughout all Group activities, structured around the four pillars of our Corporate Responsibility: economic responsibility, employer responsibility, civic responsibility and environmental responsibility.”
During 2012, BNP Paribas has continued to drive forward its Responsible Bank initiative. The Group has distributed to all clients and staff worldwide a charter entitled Our Mission, Our Responsibility, which sets out all the Group's commitments to its various stakeholders and society at large.
