Building investment returns on innovation

Published On 15.02.2001
BNP PARIBAS, the leader in the investment certificates market, and Boursorama, the leading free source of on-line market information, have joined forces to offer six new certificates: capped, floored and themed

2 Capped Certificates and 2 Floored Certificates on the CAC40:

You expect the CAC40 index to remain fairly stable or to rise
- Capped Certificates
These certificates carry upper and lower thresholds, which are used to determine repayment at maturity.
At maturity there are three possible outcomes:
· If the CAC40 is above the upper threshold, the investor receives EUR200 per certificate.
· If the CAC40 is between the two thresholds, the investor receives the difference between the index level and the lower threshold.
· If the CAC40 is below the lower threshold, the investor loses the capital invested, unless, of course, the certificate has been resold before maturity.
Thus by buying the 5800/6000 Capped Certificate for EUR102 on 9 February 2001, for example, the investor will receive EUR200 if the CAC40 is above 6000 points at maturity (27 December 2001), giving a return of 95% in less than one year!

You expect the CAC40 index to remain relatively stable or to fall
- Floored Certificates
These certificates carry upper and lower thresholds, which are used to determine repayment at maturity.
At maturity there are three possible outcomes:
· If the CAC40 is below the lower threshold, the investor receives EUR200 per certificate.
· If the CAC40 is between the two thresholds, the investor receives the difference between the index leve and the upper threshold.
· If the CAC40 is above the upper limit, the investor loses the capital invested, unless, of course, the certificate has been resold before maturity.
Thus by buying the 6300/6500 Floored Certificate at EUR135 on 9 February 2001, the investor will receive EUR200 if the CAC40 is below 6300 at maturity (27 December 2001), giving a return of 48% in less than one year.

NB: all these Certificates are continuously traded and can thus be bought or sold at any time prior to maturity.

Two themed Certificates: a simple, diversified way to invest in a sector

With no leverage effect, the behaviour of these themed Certificates tracks exactly the value of the underlying basket of equities selected. They offer a single investment route into the major stocks of the European market or the Telecoms sector.
These Certificates have been listed in real-time on the cash market since 25 January. There are no management fees. They can be bought and sold as simply as a share.

The European Blue Chips Certificate covers a range of leading European companies and offers diversification across countries and sectors.

The Telecoms Certificate covers 12 major European telecoms stocks, including the major network operators and producers of mobile telephone equipment.
