16.03.2009 | Group, Press release
BNP Paribas Securities (Japan) Limited, Tokyo Branch, today announced that it will be sponsoring the "BNP Paribas Fundamentals of Financial Mathematics" at the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences. This three year commitment is the first sponsored course by a non-Japanese securities firm at the University's Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences.
The course, beginning in April 2009, will include the statistical analysis of financial models, research on high-speed numerical analysis of derivative pricing when applying financial models, and research on the mathematical reasoning behind various risk hedging methods currently used. BNP Paribas' employees will contribute to lecturing the weekly course.
The BNP Paribas Group takes pride in its world class capabilities in the field of mathematics and this sponsorship by the Tokyo Branch follows this tradition. In 2008, BNP Paribas participated in the management of 260 million yen raised for the "Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques" (IHÉS) Japan Fund to invite Japanese mathematicians to France.
BNP Paribas' Chief Country Representative for Japan, Yusuke Yasuda, said "We are delighted to sponsor this course in partnership with the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences. BNP Paribas is strongly committed to Japan and it is an honour to contribute to the education of the next generation of mathematicians through this course."
